• Start with a City beginning with A
    • This is BY STATE
    • Similar to the Tag contest, there will be one thread per state
    • Post a picture of your bike AND some sign, building etc which clearly shows the city/state you're in
    • The next person posts from a city with the name beginning with B, then C, D, etc
    • You can't posts back-to-back pics, you have to wait for a person to post the next city
    • Once Z is reached, the game starts over with A
    • If your state doesn't have a city beginning with the next letter in sequence, it's okay to skip that letter
    • If the location sits for more than one month, the person that posted that is open to move it to the next letter.

The World Wide game is a bit different as it is by whatever is considered a geographic type of regional category, state/province/village etc. and all those will be in the single World Wide A-Z topic.

Allsboro For An A -

Allsboro 03.jpg

Allsboro was settled in the mid-19th century and named for the family of Bradley Alsobrook.
The Alsobrook family owned most of the land in the area and are buried in the cemetery in the first picture.
A post office was established in Allsboro in 1851 until being discontinued in 1955.

According to a local feller I met here the Natchez Trace ran right through the village.
Supposedly Andrew Jackson stopped here on his way to the Battle of New Orleans.
And Jesse and Frank James stopped here between their robberies of several Alabama banks.

Cherokee For C -

Cherokee For C.jpg

A bit of history -

The earliest white settlers to what is now the Cherokee area arrived in the early 1830s. Population increases by 1838 spurred construction of more roads to the area. The economy was based primarily on agriculture at this time. The first post office opened in 1856, and the U.S. Postal Service gave it the name Cherokee. In 1857, the Memphis & Charleston Railroad came through the area. A depot was completed in 1859 to serve a new rail line through the town prompted a building boom, and lots laid out around the depot sold quickly. By 1862, the town had grown enough that the citizens voted to incorporate, officially adopting the name of the post office. Primarily because of its location on a railroad line, the town became a strategic target during the Civil War. Federal troops occupied the town three times. The town’s economy suffered badly during Reconstruction but later recovered and continued to expand. By the early 1900s, the town had numerous stores, a grist mill, and a hotel. The first telephone system was installed in 1914 and electricity followed in 1920. Growth in Cherokee slowed as the nearby towns expanded and drew business away, causing many downtown establishments to close.

D is for Daphne. Daphne is acclaimed as the location of one of the only 2 in the world "Fishing Jubilee" locations. If you don't know what a fishing jubilee is look it up. I'd love to be there fishing when the jubilee happens.

"At a good jubilee you can quickly fill a washtub with shrimp."

I wanted to use this unincorporated area with a much larger population of 650 just 10 miles away but I feared the doom and gloom.

Paint Rock For P -

Paint Rock AL.jpg

A bit of personal history - My paternal great uncle lived there for many years.
He adopted his grandchildren because their parents died in a tragic house fire.

The town is situated along the Paint Rock River.
It is in a relatively narrow valley between Keel Mountain to the west and the Cumberland Plateau to the east.
Paint Rock was settled in the 1820s and was initially known as "Camden."
A post office was established in 1836, and a railroad depot was constructed in 1856.

The name was changed from Camden to "Paint Rock" in 1876.
