I like the Altrider stuff. I was leaning this way after watching the video(s) on their site. The crash bars especially look well thought out.
Bags are my big problem. Without seeing them in person its tough to get an idea of quality and look on the bike. Are your bags 37 litre? Jesse bags seem to have the reputation for being the best - or least it seems that way in the threads and articles I was reading. Wondering if its worth the premium and whether I really need the toughest made bags - no RTW plans - yet ;-)
I read in 2 places that Givi bags had a problem with poor/breaking hinges & locks, but the info was a little old. Likely fixed by now if the problem existed at all. Do you know?
Mine are the 37l Trekker Outbacks and I haven't seen anything about issues with their hinges or locks, they seem pretty durable and the new rack for these bags are much sturdier than previous givi racks - they use a new CAM lock attachment rack - whatever that means - which is really just 2 locking tabs vs the 1 locking tab with monokey luggage. There's no movement at all with the rack so it feels like it would be fine if the bike were dropped. The boxes are nice and I've been through a couple rain storms already and not a drop of water got in them so that's nice. The Jesse bags will let some in at times.
The Jesse bag lids come with a nice wire retainer so you can put stuff in that area like heated or rain gear, etc. The Givis had an option of buying a small net but that was a bit ridiculous to me so I took the dremel to the fins built into the lid and strung some elastic cord.
I had Jesse bags on my 1st bike and I did like them but the 10" bags are built close to the bike for an OEM look, great job but again maike it tough to get some of the wider top boxes on the rack and be able to open them. With the Jesse bags you have some front-to-back adjustment so that's also an option. I personally think they are the toughest and best. There's a set of bags out of the country - Holand and Poland I think which are #2 IMO - Holan and Bumot - you can see them at ADV Motorrad for pics.
