Just bought a really clean 2009 ST 1300 Police bike with 22,000 miles. Associated police equipment was removed, but wanted to know what( if any ) differences exist between the Police model and those sold to the general plublic. Any problem areas I should be aware of? It starts, runs & rides very nicely, just thought I should get the proper maual for it if Police unit is different.

Thanks much, GuruG

Good question. I just got an 2013 ST1300PA. The multiple light switches on the right handle bar is different. Everything works on my bike except the horn. Probable was disable. I'll have to get into that. Mine has a "battery" box. I want to get rid or it and get a passenger seat. Probable will fill in all the holes (where lights were removed) and paint it this winter.

HI DenAmmons: Must be a Honda person out there who knows the scoop on the Police bikes. I'd been looking for an ST 1300 for about a year, and it seems the old Police bikes are more abundant, and cheaper than the others. Mine had the police stuff removed, & looks ( other than the black & white paint) pretty much like the basic ST.
Good luck with yours! GuruG

Here are some of the top of my head, and I'm sure others can fill in any blanks:

Handlebar risers, wind deflectors (except mirror), tank pads standard.
Speed limited to 120 MPH
sidecases open without key
Police solo seat is dual density foam
usually missing tool kit and tank prop rod
right hand police switch with extra wiring located in the tail for hooking up the police emergency equipment
possibly different battery and battery box depending on year
High mileage ones might have 2nd gear issues
radio box instead of rear seat, and no passenger pegs are clearly obvious
may or may not had extra chrome drop guards, engine and sidecase, installed
original police tires were stiffer sidewalls for runflat protection
....

Enjoy, and I would get the honda police service manual so you can use that police switch to your benefit on adding farkles.

Also MCL blades will not mount to the police model as the tip over bars have extra brackets to mount siren speakers and such.

When you say "tip over bars" are you referring to bars outside the fairing. The police bikes here in Tucson have large bars outside that have lights & stuff mounted on them. The police bike I bought in another city didn't have them. You can see my bike attached. I was hoping I could install the MCL blades or something like them.

So, the ones on Ebay are from a civilian model & they're different from what's on the police model? I haven't removed the fairing yet to look at them.

Yes on both counts. Look at the curve with the single tab at the 9 o'clock position. That's were the tip-over cover is fastened to the bar. The P tip over bars have an extra bracket as skidgillen mentioned.

You don't need to remove the faring to see that difference – just remove the screw on the both of the cover and it's right there. It can be a little tricky to put the cover back but patience is your friend.

That makes me wonder why the standard speedometers are so inaccurate. Mine is off 7-8 slow at 70 MPH indicated. I depend on the GPS display speed.
Most of them I've seen run fast. My theory is so that the hard off warranty faster.

On the civillian models the speedometer is off by 7-8% but the odometer is fairly accurate at 1-2% off.

Did you ever get the horn worked out? I recently bought an '09. It has no horn nor any open wires for it. I need to figure something out to pas DMV inspection. I want to hook it up through the existing horn switch.

Horn is on left handlebar switches and has a relay associated with it. When the police siren and lights were removed, (controlled on the right side switches), that shouldn’t have had anything to do with the OEM horn.

For me, I swapped out the OEM horn with the one of the three siren controller mode, the “yelp” at 100 Watts and 120db. The other two siren modes (wail and phaser) are enabled by two of the right side switches.

Did the bike come with the police “crash” bars? If not, where did you plan to mount a siren? This determines what type of siren you can mount. Post a pic of the bike?

Without some kind of crash bars especially the 'police' crash bars the only play that comes to mind is the tipover bar. STPs have different tipover bars than STs that allow for the mounting of a siren. It'd have to be a little smaller than a lot of yelpers.
