'08 KLR 650

I'm envious. How does that KLR do on the highway? When are you going to Alaska? More importantly, when can we expect a ride report? Inquiring minds want to know...

KLR does good on the highway. Leaving somewhere around the 1st of June. I'll have my phone with me and send in periodic updates as I go. If I can figure out how to include pictures from the phone I'll do that also. I'll post some kind of report when I get back. I have no time restraints, but will probably be home late June or early July.

Stock seat Mac? Mine on the 400 was like sitting on a rail after 50 miles.

Hi Mac
I put PackRat Racks and Pelican 1550's on mine. I have a Givi E-52 top box and I love that Bike. Have you done the DOO yet. Make sure you take some Oil along. Some of the 08's have started Burning Oil Early, like 1qt in 400 miles! Good luck on your trip and watch out for the DRUNKS!

When I look at how pretty and clean it is all I can think is:

Does he know how terribly dirty it's gonna be?

Does he know it will never be the same again?

Look under "new adventure bike" and see the pictures of my '98 Gold Wing up there. This will be my thrid bike trip up there, and I know what to expect with the dirt and roads and weather. This will be my first dual purpose ride on those dirt roads. I am looking forward to it. :)

Alicia, I have been reading the KLR650.net board a lot and will be keeping a very close eye on the sight glass. I will have the doo done (have the kit) in April. There is a guy on the klrworld.com board that lives right around the corner from me that has all the tools. He was trying to get others interested in a tech day, but I was the only one who responded. I have a set of Toruances to put on yet, but am waiing for the garage to warm up a bit. Another item I haven't mounted yet is my CB antena. I am uncertain where I'm going to put it. The easiest thing to do would be to mount it on the side of the top box, but I'm reluctant to drill holes in it.

Looks good, Mac. Wish I were going. Is a run I need to make.

Take lots of pictures of the before bike:) Just so people you meet after will know what it was once!

You know, modern epoxies are really something. I think you could JB Weld the antenna bracket to the side of your top box and the only way you'd ever get it to come off would be with a chisel.

I am a true believer in JB weld(just ask anyone who has seen my camp preculator) but I don't think that dog will hunt!!!

Is that an HMW decal on there?

You need a KMW!
No, it is a KLR sticker and if you look on the back of the top box there is a klr650.net sticker!!! Along with the obvious ADV stickers and Happy Trails stickers.
