Very good current trip in spite of the rain (yeah, rain. It's me, what would you expect.

)
Left Kingman at 11AM last Wednesday, a full day late. Rode old 66 to near Williams, AZ, a few miles of I-40, then AZ 64 thru Grand Canyon National Park.
Stopped in Seligman on the way for lunch at Delgadillos Snow Cap. Place has been there since the 30s, walls are covered with business cards and stickers. It's a popular stop for tour buses to/from the G.C. So had to put up "our" sticker.
Continued on from GC past 4-corners to Cortez. STealth camped at Mesa Verda National Park. Very crowded but sign at the entrance said "camp sites available." Found an empty one, set up, made dinner, in bed by midnight. Packed at 6 on Thursday morning and rolled...
To and thru Silver City to Montrose. Picked up US-50 there and followed it all the way to Vincennes, IN except for the side trip thru Rye, CO to pick up the National Tag (see Nat Tag and CO Tag for those details.)
Hit I-25 at Colorado City, north to Pueblo and picked up 50 again, then on the flats (ugh!) to Garden City, KS. Major road construction along the way (paralleling the existing road so no delays), part of
your stimulus package!
Weather had gone from good earlier Thursday to a little rain and
very foggy near Rye to just threatening east of the front range so I got a motel for the night. Parked under the overhang and snoozed very comfortably for $50.04.
Friday found me looking ahead at +800 miles to make it to Vincennes. (double ugh!) Had Dinky's MO tag in my sights, tho, so promises of rewards get me rolling. Didn't even look for the KS tag as another delay would have made me late for the coming reunion. Did stop in Dodge City for a quick pic, tho. Wasn't sure there was an existing KS Tag and figured this would be worthy start if there was none.

There is one, tho, so it ain't mine. Just a nice scrap book picture.
<side bar> From Pueblo, CO to Dodge City, KS, the world is
flat! Looking out across those prairies you can see the curvature of the earth. Good news is, the farther ya get from Colorado (and closer to Missouri) the better Kansas gets.
So, on thru Missouri as the day is wearing thin. Got past Jefferson City with no problem but a took a little side trip down to
Bonnots Mill just 'cause. Neat little preserved turn-of-the-century town (19th century!) Would be worth of a tag but I didn't stop to take a pic and, because of impending dark and the total MO deer population in front of me, I gave up the chase and beat feet for Illinois.
Pulled an Easy Rider and finally stopped in a cemetery east of Salem, IL for a little shut eye. Very quiet neighbors.
So arrived in Vincennes, IN at 8:30 Saturday morning for b'kfast with the ol' class mates.
Who are all these old people?
A little visit there, then wonder around old down town for a while. Finally dinner at the golf course club house. Good times were had by all. From there we went to the K of C where an "all classes" mixer was going on. Talked to several folks from classes ahead and behind, danced a couple times with (female) classmates, and finally headed farther east to my sis' place in St. Anthony. In the rain. In deer country!
Got here about midnight last night, unpacked the damp camping gear in the garage and hit the rack about 1 AM.
There will be albums at webshots.com/user/georgecatt if I ever get a round toit.

I'm still 2000 shots behind this year in spite of putting up 3 new albums.
