Booster Plug

This is what they claim:
- Improved and softer throttle response when rolling the throttle on-off.
- Enrichment of Air/Fuel mixture when you open the throttle will improve acceleration.
- Remove the Jerky low speed running that is typical for modern lean burn engines.
- Stronger and more reliable Idle.
- Reduced Puffing in your aftermarket exhaust on engine braking.

Not sure I have a problem with any of these. If it could be shown that it improves MPG without affecting performance, then I might try it.

:run1: This will be my first upgrade. Thanks Larry. It's not Rocket Science. It's just plain old fashion fun. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

I wouldn’t expect a jump in mpg. If anything I’d be willing to bet you lose 3-5 mpg. It fools the ECU into thinking the engine is cold so the ECU then riches the air/fuel mix. Imagine riding with the choke on all day.

It most likely would increase fuel consumption slightly......BUT.....if my legs wouldn't feel like they were on fire while riding, I actually could drive all day!

We'll need some feedback from one of our trustworthy ST Owners members......

Interesting....but I don't see how it changes anything unless the new temperature sensor is calibrated differently from the stock unit.
I agree, though it would be child's play for them to calibrate the temp sensor differently or give it a curved response. I think there is too much room for subjective evaluation of the improvement. I'd like to see some kind of automated test like what the emissions test for cars does - have a mechanical means to accelerate the engine while the bike is strapped to a dyno before I'll believe their, to me, over the top claims. "The lady doth protest too much, methinks".

Indeed. Without wishing to be accusatory, this is a lot like those late-night-TV-magic-potions-for-improving-fuel-economy ads. The claims are never substantiated with real data - everything is just, "YUGE" and "Everyone agrees..." etc. etc.

How can you trust a fella with crinkles in his duct tape.
Answer, you blummin can't.
Nuff said.
Upt'North.
Just duct tape is bad enough, but crinkles too...

I use gorilla tape, don't think it's possible to crinkle it...

It works - for a little while. I don't know the ST13 FI system, but the BMW systems and many others cancel out the boosterplug effect over time because of the long term fuel trim. The FI notices that the mixture is rich by O2 sensor data and tunes the fuel shot down until the preset lambda value of 1.0 is reached. The only way to make a permanent change on the system is by lambda shifting. One device that does this is the AF-XIED. I"ve used both and have had great results on several bikes with the AF-XIED system. I gave a couple of booster plugs away because I didn't feel right charging anyone for them

Booster Plug vs. AF-XIED

"Jens" has spent a lot of words eloquently explaining how it ain't so. He has a following. I ain't in it.

So everybody keeps posting links about what the manufacturer is saying. Of course it's friggin' great! More power, better fueling, better MPG, what did you expect them to say?

Read some complaints about the fouled plugs, carbon build up, etc. All the things you get with a rich A/F mixture.

Anything can be overdone. The 1.0 lambda target is optimized for emissions, not drivability. If you target somewhere between that and sooty plugs, you can make a lasting stable improvement. Booster Plug, in addition to being negated by long term fuel trim, does not allow any adjustability.

That's wot I like about plug and PLAY. Just plug it in and watch it go.

Has anyone used this on a ST1300?? Since all this device does is make the ECU think the temp is 20 degrees C. cooler it should work. It has it's own sensor so it follows the ambient temp.
The ECU wouldn't know the difference. It wouldn't try to correct the fuel trim because there's no problem, it just thinks it's cold out.

Other bikes have many options for changing fueling, ST has almost none. My FZ07 runs awesome with an ECU flash, no options with the ST.

I just want that perfect fueling like the FZ has.

Wish I had found this at the beginning of the season not the end, might still pull the trigger on it.

You have some more research to do to figure out if your shoulds and woulds have any basis in fact..
