Jackets Firstgear Kilimanjaro jacket?

Hi. Just bought a high visability Kaili. I took it out on at drive today. Temp was about 15 F. I was fine for the brief time i was out. If I were going out for longer I might consider a good solid jersy type shirt or mid weight fleece under it. The jacket is so bright I am glad I am wearing it so I don't have to look at it. :)

Test drove a connie and an st1300 today. I LIKED THEM BOTH. Now what do I do?

Had a killi for a couple of years. I can't stand it when temps exceed about 75. Use it exclusively when its cooler or cold. I've ridden for days in rain on long trips and it had never leaked. (Maybe one of my 75 chins creates some kind of seal).

Just did the research on this Board and others for the same question .... and ended up ordering a new Olympia AST 2 to replace my old AST shown in my Avatar.

I knew the quality of the AST had heard of uncertainty around the Kili's build quality of late.
Have ridden my AST in temps from 28 - 108f, and had to return to quality. i think the new striping on the AST 2 looks good too.

Hows the AST 2 build quality, a few have reported a lot of issues with the seems blowing out on the orig. Is this one actually waterproof in extended heavy rain?

my 1st G Jute is uhm resistant LOL.

My AST 2 was fine riding through Canada on last summer's ride to WeSTOC. It didn't leak a bit in the rain showers there. Of course it was only a couple weeks old at that point.

The waterproof zippers have velcro flaps you can fold over for additional protection.

Oh oh! It better work for you. ;)

FYI, I had ordered a Kili first, and just wasn't happy with it enough to keep it. The AST2 seemed to both fit better, and had more features. There is one little defect with the location of the velcro on one of the vent covers, but it wasn't bad enough to return or exchange it.

I'll come in a little late on this one, however I can add a little to the mix. I have a Kilimanjaro jacket that is now about 8 years old and has finally broken down a couple years ago and started to leak.

Previous to that I believed and still do that it is the best piece of motorcycle gear I have ever owned and kept me dry and warm in some extreme west coast downpoars.

In looking for a replacement for it I bought one of the new Kilimanjaro 5.0 jackets which are the presently available model. I did not like it at all so I promptly sold it. It had changed too much and I did not like the way the new style fit.

I had a Kilimanjaro 4.0 previously and wanted another one. Unfortunately all I could find in my size was a leftover Kilimanjaro 4.0 jacket which was all black. Not my first color choice. I bought it however and have it here new and ready to go.

In the meantime while on a trip to Texas I saw and picked up a Transition 2 jacket, thinking it seemed like a nice jacket.

I was wrong, the first time I wore it without the liner I near sweated to death as it would not breath. I promptly went home and switched to my old Kilimanjaro without the liner which in the same hot temperature was fine as always. (Hot up here was about 85 F that day:))

So the Transition 2 was up for sale.

Another jacket now enters the scene. :)

At this point you may be thinking I'm into jackets like some women are into shoes ;)

Last summer while at Westoc we were convinced to be measured for and to purchase a Motoport Kevlar jacket.

I had the Ultra II Air mesh kevlar jacket with stretch kevlar sleeves made for me with the waterproof thermal liner.

It has arrived and is a very nice jacket but I am at this time unsure as to how the mesh and stretch Kevlar will function in bad weather with the liner in.

I know of the Motoports reputation for protection ,but am wondering if I will be drawn back to the functionality of the Kilimanjaro 4.0

Time will tell :)

Well, there's my story and I'm sticking to it :D
