I am contemplating replacing the stock windscreen on my st1300. I hope that I can get help from some of you fellow st owners as to what they feel would be the best aftermarket choice to reduce wind noise and back pressure.

There are a great many options and, not surprisingly, a great many opinions. You might try searching "aftermarket windshields" or checking the "windshields" forum for existing information. Members are likely to offer up their $.02 in response to your request as well.

If you're looking to reduce wind noise and cut back pressure, the first thing I'd suggest you do before you spend money on a replacement shield is move the windshield to the higher of the two base settings. If you can't figure it out, it's in your owner's manual. Easy. This will position the shield slightly higher throughout the electrically adjustable range and may accomplish what you're looking for.

I've used a strip of Saeng edging on my stock shield, which raises and widens the stock sheild's wind diffusion. It's not expensive and somewhat effective, although it looks funky (IMO).

More recently I put a Laminar Lip on my stock shield. It was given to me by the owner of the company when one of my Rider articles included photos of 3 different ST's (two 13's and one 11) outfitted with Lips. It was purely coincidental and certainly not my attention to offer up free advertising, but apparently he noticed a bump in inquiries following the article's publication and wanted to say thanks. He called and asked how I liked my Lip and I had to say truthfully I didn't have one. Well, one arrived my doorstep, gratis, a couple days later. My initial shake-down ride of about 150 miles of mixed slab and two-lanes last weekend impressed me enough that I'm leaving it on for the run to Moonshine, which will probably be close to 4,000 miles by the time I get home.

I have also used a Clearview GT Small with an adjustable Gold Wing vent, which I picked up gently used from a forum member. The more convex shape of the shield and the ability to vent air through the center of the shield both aid in reducing back pressure, although the higher the shield goes up the more back pressure is created. Unless I'm completely smitten with the Laminar Lip, which remains to be seen, the GT Small will go back on for the warm weather as it lets a blast of air through that hits me mid-chest and keeps me cooler than the stock shield.

I picked up a v-stream from a ST-owners member, they did not like it, so $100 and ship I gave it a try and so far love it. Have not rode in hot weather yet, may be to much still air. Time will tell.

Well as mentioned in the prior post , here's my $.02. I currently use x3 different shields based on the riding situation and the season .
1) 7JuRock 2+2 Grey tint.. 2 up, later fall - mid spring. Very quite and great protection from both wind and rain.
2) Calsci Tinted shorty. 2 up late spring-early fall or solo riding mid spring and/or mid fall . Some protection from wind and rain, but enough air flow all the way down for comfort with ATGATT.
3) Custom cut painted stock cut down 5", painted to the custom paint on the Corbin smuggler. Solo, mid spring to mid fall.. When Georgia is 97F and 98% humidity, I want all the air flow I can get with ATGATT. Little protection from wind or rain, all the way up keeps rain out of your face.

So there is no 1 shield that works for me for all riding situations ..
Enjoy ..

bones, let us know the low-down on the LL after your ride and if it is good for the pillion too please!

TMUS2122, same info as I've asked from bones please but for the Vstream please.

Thanks in advance to both of you! :)

I tried a Cee Bailey; it caught too much air, and I felt it affected the bike's handling.
I'm running a VStream right now, and like it better than the OEM and the Cee Bailey.
There's a Cal-Sci (used, and reasonably priced) sitting about three feet from me right now; the VStream is working well enough that I haven't tried it yet.

Maybe we should have Shield-STOC at my garage. Let people try out the three windshields I have, and any others that show up.

I run with a Cal-Sci Large and like it a lot. I'm 5'11" and like no wind on me. I also have a Gold Wing with a Tulsa windshield and was trying to go for that effect on the ST. For the most part I think I was successful given the differences in the bikes. I do look through the windshield, but that is only if I raise it up, my preferred position. If the windshield is lowered all the way down, I look over it but it is larger in that position and offers more protection than the stock shield. My wife who doesn't like much wind and blowing around said the windshield meets her desires too. I had her into the 3 digits on the speedo and she didn't realize we were going that fast due to the lack of a really strong breeze. I'd buy another one if this one scratches or gets damaged.

Same as Scott here..
CalSci Large...5'11'' as well...Had for 5 years and been very happy...Hated the backpressure of the stock..
If you want to ride over to CT, you are more than welcome to try mine out..
(I won't be around for the next week but after that)..

I install a CalSci XL for winter use. Lots of protection from wind & rain, even for my hands. No backpressure at all. Too hot for spring/summer/fall use though. I'd definitely get another, money well spent.

I put a V stream on my st 1300 and I really like it, tamed all the wind noise down and most all the turbulence, I had a CE Bailey it was better than the stock, but with shield up I had problems seeing with glasses on and and looking through the visor shield . The V stream I can look over easily and still not have wind noise, so I am happy, the bike came with a tinted rifle, it looks the best, it isn't bad until around 70mph the it has a horrible whistle around the dash. I rode the bike 400 miles last week and the V stream done a great job for me.
