Terry 'ACL' Hammond (11/19/2010)

Pretty much everything that could be said about Terry has been said and I agree with every word of it. I met & talked with him a couple of times and he was truly one of a kind. That man leaves a very big hole in the world and in our community.

Godspeed Terry. He and Putt are probably crankin' 'em up now for a ride....

This is a stunner. Totally out of left field. That someone could be there and then so suddenly not . . . :(

One week post Moonshine where I had been
I logged on to see something I did not want
A terrible headline that will forever haunt

A thousand thoughts filled my head
I could hardly believe what I had just read
Something so close to perfection is now missing
The breath from my lungs escaped, slowly hissing

It cannot be, there is no way
We all lost a great friend today
He certainly fit the definition of merry
There will never be another quite like Terry

All the colors and commas, he was full of pith
Kept track of all the riders he had slept with
He was impressed by a rider when he was just eight
When that BMW pilot turned him onto to something great

Riding with Terry was only part of the glory
Never a silent moment as he always had a story
Some were serious but most were funny
Even in the rain and cold he always made it sunny

A giving person who expected nothing in return
He had a great big heart and now ours will yearn
He touched so many from coast to coast
Always friendly, always funny, he was the most

It wasn?t the hamburger why some rode 2000 miles
It?s because when they got there it would be all smiles
What goes on above we all want to know
It?s comforting to think he is still part of the show

It?s pulling hard on my heart, giving it quite a tug
If I had five more seconds with him I could sure use a hug
I hear they have pie in Heaven, my favorite is cherry
Eat all you want buddy, we?ll miss you Terry

Jeff, straight from the heart, putting into words what many of us are feeling . . .

Thanks,
Shuey

My heart goes out to his family. I received a call this evening and it has been very somber in our house. Not much else to say but I feel honored to be able to call Terry Hammond and friend. Today we lost a great one.

Ah Dink...truer words have never been spoken,...
Your poem to Terry has many memories awoken...
When words do not come because pain locks them inside
Poetry allows feelings to flow like the tide
A terrible loss such as this makes it so hard to speak
But sometimes the rhyming allows people to peek
Into the depths of despair that such a loss leaves within
A part of us is gone, it's like losing a limb
How blessed we all were to have experienced such a treasure
Terry left smiles on our hearts that are beyond any measure
We'll ride with pegs down knowing he'll continue to ride
His enthusiasm for life will keep him right by our sides
With Putt, his good buddy, they'll ride heavens roads Oh, so many
He'll finally earn the mileage award....he'll have much more than any!

In the wind Terry...God speed.

Terry, you will be missed, friend that I never met.

"O son of being! Bring thyself to account each day ere thou art summoned to a reckoning; for death, unheralded, shall come upon thee and thou shalt be called to give account for thy deeds."

I have a feeling that Terry is mighty comfortable and rather busy doing just that, smilingly recounting all the good deeds that he performed.
You touched many a heart, farmer Hammond.

I was just shocked when I got the message from Kreis this evening. On reflection, we will all miss him but most of all his family. But Terry, I'm gonna see you again and kinda envious you are having the blast you are having. Only your body has died, but you are better than EVAR. I'm going to want you to show me around when I see you.

I'm another who never met Terry, except through his posts.
He was always upbeat, added to the site in so many ways.
Moonshine was on my "to-do" list, and I'm saddened that I'll never meet him in person.

Vaya con dios, Terry.

Just got the call from Pat(sirepair), I'm just totally speechless and empty. What a loss...I enjoyed his posts so much that at times I would almost be in tears laughing.

Any words seem inadequate. Prayers to his wife and entire Hammond family.

He will be missed by so many.

Terry 'ACL' Remembered

Shock is wearing off, and i, like I think many of us, are am thinking about Terry and remembering those moments in time we shared, when my life and soul were lifted by the smile and spirit that was Terry.

I know there are countless ACL stories and . . . I know I'd like to hear them, and I'm sure the family and all of us will find joy in the celebration.

What's your favorite ACL rememberence?

I'll start with mine.

After a 35 year break in riding, I bought an ST1300 '07. Started exploring the net to learn how to take care of it and stumbled on the ST-Owners site. Great find. I was enjoying the bike on local rides of an hour or two and decided to attend one of those STOC events - sounded like some fun. So, took two days and arrived at the Iron Horse Motor Cycle Lodge in Stecoah, even got there early.

After not seeing anything that looked like a planned group meeting of some kind, I stood up at breakfast and asked aloud if there was anyone there for the EaSTOC event that weekend, and . . . up pops this big smiling guy who comes right over, grabs my hand, gives it a shake or two and told me I was in the right place, his name was Terry Hammond and what was mine. I told him, then he gave me a nudge towards an empty seat at his table where some other rough customers were already seated, put his hand on my shoulder as we walked over and said, "you know, you're going to really like this group and enjoy the weekend, but if you really want to have fun . . . have you heard about my MOONSHINE RUN, it's even more fun than this!"
Then he told me all about it!

Jeff and Carole, you both have a great talent there, thank you for the words and feeling we are all searching for, he will be missed dearly by so many, but like you said, never forgotten ever. He will live on in our hearts. Just picturing him with Putt right now makes me smile, I can just imagine what there doing right now.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Terry's family. I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time at NatSToc this year. Although it was brief, he left a lasting impression and I am so glad I had the privilege to meet him.
Godspeed

I really liked Terry.

I never met him in person, but I liked him a lot.

I missed out on meeting him when he was up this way about a month and a half ago for a Packers game.

Like with Putt, I am poorer for not having met him.

RIP Terry...
