Well, what say you?
Me? I changed the tires on the XR. Man that thing eats tires. A new set of Continental Road Attack 3. Love those things. Stick like glue. Awesome Sport Touring tire. But that's just me.

Friday ordered a pair of Michelin Roads for the RT. After 3 sets of the Road 5s I am very happy with their ride, handling, and grip in all weathers. I'm getting over 13,000 miles out of the rears and over 11,000 out of a front. That said I'm trying the Road 6 front on the next set. Last week Cycle Gear offered free mounting and balancing and presently Michelin has a $50 Visa gift card promotion on so I saved $100 on the set.

Dave, are you running the Road 5 GTs? My RT came w/those. I don't think I've ever gotten 13k out of a rear tire on any bike other than the Anakee 3s on the VStrom 650.

GT spec are recommended for my bike but when I bought it the R5s on it were non-GT spec with 4500 miles wear. I was amazed at the great condition of the tires given the lumpy scalloped wear I’d experienced with previous Pilot Road 2s & 3s. I wore the 5 tires out and when I bought replacements I stayed with non-GTs two more times. I’m a little wary Michelin designed the Road 6 rear with the center hard compound 2/3rd the width of the 5’s so I’m sticking with a 5 rear but I want to try the 6 front. They are using the 2CT+ construction in the front tire now. I’m convinced 2CT+ gives the soft compound outer edges the underlying support needed to prevent the lumpy wear pattern where the hard compound transitions to the soft compounds.

I have been using PR4 & 5 GT's on my K1600GT since I bought it in 2015. The PR5 is too wide for the rear and rubs on the swingarm so I now have a PR5 on the front and PR5 on the rear. I will try the PR6 GTs on my next change.

After 116K miles I have used 19 rear tires and 12 front tires. I often swap out tires that still have reasonable tread before a long tour so I will not have to do change during the tour.

Average miles on the front is 9,596 and maximum miles is 15,229. Average miles on the rear is 5,987 and maximum miles is 8,476. The K1600 engine puts out a lot of torque so it does eat rear tires faster than my ST. Riding hard in the twisties will eat up both tires very fast.

Fitted a set Avon Roadrider 11 on the R100RT and went for a quick spin. Felt better than the 20+ year old Bridgestones that I removed. Tend to stick with Avons for most of the bikes now, most are old, apart from the Touring ST11 and the Wing. I became tired reading so many tyre reviews, so I gave up.

The wife's 2014 F700GS has been having issues lately starting. I pulled the battery today and it is the original OEM battery with a 2013 date on it. I am impressed with its life.

Not bad. My 2015 GSA is still on the original battery, and going strong.

At least somebody has a REAL BMW!!!
What year? I have an '81. /QUOTE]

Mine is an '84. last of the dual shock and with brembo brakes and snowflake alloys. 140,000 miles and still really sweet and original. But not without it's inherent flaws.

After approximately 1000 miles on the Road 6 GT's I am mixed on their characteristics. I replaced a set of Pirelli Angel GT 2's which I really liked as they stuck like glue in the corners and in the wet. They inspired a ton of confidence, but the mileage was pretty lousy. It would have been about 5000 miles on the rear but that was cut short due to a puncture. I found that the Road 6's are a bit slippery in the corners under hard braking and acceleration, at least on my K1600 GTL which is close to 1000 lbs including the large rider. To the point where I got a little concerned a couple of times. I never had that concern on the Angel GT 2's, but I am sure that I will get a lot more miles out of the Michelins. What's my point? Yeah, I got nothing either.
