I replaced the OEM drive shaft at 120,000 miles with a rebuild that has grease fittings for the U-joint bearings. That was two years ago and the rebuild shop recommends greasing after 500 hours which is roughly 25,000 miles.

If the 1300 is the same as the 1100, you can't pull the driveshaft out from the rear of the swing arm. It has to come off.

EDIT: Oops! We are on the Bunch o' Money Wasted sub forum here. Never mind.

Nice, Dave. I've got about 45K on my GSA, and when I had it in to get some items repaired after the last mishap, they decided to replace the driveshaft with a brand new one. Courtesy BMW Motorrad recall. So I hope I can pull way passed 100K with it.
I drop the pumkin down every 6k, even though the interval is 12K. So at 6K, I clean up the rear end of the shaft, spline, boot, then relube, as well as changing the gear oil back there.

Who put the grease fittings in the u-joints?

Yes, the free drive shaft deal….. alas not applicable to non WC bikes.

@David Fyffe, the bearing manufacturer is not discernible.

@Tor and David, Machine Services Inc of Green Bay WI offers the rebuild service with grease fittings standard.
