I'll update this post as people provide info. But, I wanted to put a
table of the tire choices currently available as replacements for the STANDARD
tire on the ST1100/ST1300. The Front/Rear columns will be the tire model
designators IF that brand supplies one for the front and/or rear.

*** Warning, there are an unusual number of tire failures reported on this site
associated with this model. They are listed as a proper fitment but are
not recommended.

Does this mean me?

Avon STorms for Carb Cowboys
AV55 Front 110/85 ZR 18 Recomended Pressure 42
AV56 Rear 160/70 ZR 17 Recomended Pressure 42

I run my front at 41, my rear about 38

ST1100's size also from:

Metzeler Roadtec Z6 110/80ZR18
Metzeler Roadtec Z6 160/70ZR17

Bridgestone Battlax BT021 110/80ZR18
Bridgestone Battlax BT021 160/70ZR17

+1 on STorms on the 1300

I think you need to have the table divided up into a few sections for both the 1100 and the 1300:

Honda recommended
Bridgestone/Dunlop

tire manufacturer recommended
Bridgestone/Dunlop/Metzler/etc.

also available
Avon

Technically the Avon's aren't currently manufacturer recommended for the 1300 but are available in the right ratings and sizes (and they work darn good!).

BTW, hasn't Bridgestone changed to the 021 now?

Early 1100 ABS uses the 110/80/18. I _think_ it changed to the 120/70/18 in 96(?)

Michelin makes fitment for the 1100 in bias ply, and Dunlop still makes the rear K591, branded Harley Davidson.

I've got an Avon Storm (120/70R18) on the front of one of my ST1100 ABS and Z6 (120/70R18) on the front of my other ST1100 ABS. The rears are all the same on all years/options and as far as I remember, the front didn't change on the ABS until 1996 with ABSII. The pre-96 ABSs took the same front tire as the Standard (I have a standard one too! ;-))

What rating is required? I thought size/motorcycle/radial is what mattered?

There are also Load Index and Speed ratings. Load Index is a number in pounds and Speed ratings are letter keyed to a test mph. The 1300 requires 59W (494 lbs) front and 72W (783 lbs) rear load index tires and Z speed rating. Z is 149+ mph. These ratings are found on the DOT sticker on the ST1300's frame and also in the owner's and service manual.

Ya don't need Z rated tires if ya don't run excessive speeds. Those ratings are for sustained high speed, unlikely to happen in the USA.

No you don't need them but they are required to meet the Ratings someone asked about and in performance sport touring tires a Z speed rating comes with the territory. Do the usual suspects in a line up of sport touring tires for the 1300 come in anything less than Z?

For the ST1300 there's also the Continental Road Attack. Front 120/70ZR18 (59W) and Rear 170/60ZR17 (72W). Both should be run at 42 psi. They stick well and have wet traction (but I don't know mileage as this is my first set).

I am due to fit a new rear tyre to 06 st1300 only got 7000 miles out of it . Front tyre still has at least 5000 miles left on .they are bridgestone original fitment .
what is the best wearing rear/set of tyres available .
I know there is so much choice but your opinions would be appreciated

So far, on my ST1300, I've gotten the best mileage and the best handling out of the Avon STorms. I only got about 7K miles out of the Bridgestone OEMs but I've gotten a little over 10K miles out of two sets of STorms rears and my current front is over 15K miles.

Plus, they stick like glue and really make the bike steer quick!

I just rode home from the dealer with my new Avon STorms. Can't speak to the mileage yet, but wow, do these tires ever change the handling dynamics of the bike--and all for the better. Steering quick is the truth! I'm very excited about my trip to the Northeast and some playtime in the Adirondacks now!! :)

BUMP! :bump

What size Storms go on the ST1300 and ST1100 respectively?

I'm still running Battleaxe front and rear, and have no problems or complaints, but by mid summer, I'll need a switch and would like to give Avons a try.
