• Start with a City beginning with A
    • This is BY STATE
    • Similar to the Tag contest, there will be one thread per state
    • Post a picture of your bike AND some sign, building etc which clearly shows the city/state you're in
    • The next person posts from a city with the name beginning with B, then C, D, etc
    • You can't posts back-to-back pics, you have to wait for a person to post the next city
    • Once Z is reached, the game starts over with A
    • If your state doesn't have a city beginning with the next letter in sequence, it's okay to skip that letter
    • If the location sits for more than one month, the person that posted that is open to move it to the next letter.

The World Wide game is a bit different as it is by whatever is considered a geographic type of regional category, state/province/village etc. and all those will be in the single World Wide A-Z topic.

WA: A to Z (Round 3)

Third time was the charm... Got it!!!

Hey, That looks familiar.... Post #138. Picture taken from the air strip..

I'm guessing reposting towns is allowed. I've never looked up the previous letter-town before looking for mine. With only one Z, we would run out of towns quick!

Wow! Great job! Serious bonus needs to be awarded (STOCoberfest prizes are awesome!). Not only did he find the town/census place, it was a railroad sign no less! :bow1::bow1::bow1:

If STOCtoberfest awards are given as bonus prizes... I need to step DOWN my game!

No bonus prizes here though... across the Palouse the grain towers are usually the town. The railroad marked the towns and as the towns went away the signs remained. The railroad still utilizes the tracks for grain transport so they keep up the signage.

Looking at a map you would think there are a lot of little towns. But, what you have is a (very) few towns large enough to support a population, a few smaller towns where the down towns are basically shut up and all but locked down, and a lot of grain silo's. You can usually see the remnants of the old town, or a settlers ranch, but even those are disappearing.

(for others: the Palouse is a farming area in South East WA where they grow a LOT of wheat, barely, rapeseed (canola oil), and it is filled with rolling hills and farm roads. Subtract the deer and you have excellent riding!)

It isn't unusual in Eastern WA. If you go over by the Columbia River there are old ferry Landings that used to be towns that no longer furnish ferry service. If you go North into the mountains you can find stock yards that carry town names.

It makes sense if you think of the farming lifestyle. That is where people gathered, that's where businesses would set up, but most of them are long gone. And... now... some of the signs are going away...

I've got an excellent boxed set of 1970's knives that we can give away as a prize! He's definitely deserving!

Past Stock raffle prizes don't count.... Those must be used by the current owner for two years before re-gifting.....:nanner1::rofl1:

I was going to run over to Liberty Lake, but the round trip wouldn't even add 10 miles. So, "L" is for Latah...

But, that isn't the pic you go to Latah to obtain. This is known locally as the Liberty Barn. One of the more popular and well photographed barns in the Palouse, in the heart of downtown Latah.

The owner had a few old rigs sitting outside today.

"M" anyone?

With all the NEW-STOC attendees riding to Todd and Kari's, this thread should light right up I would think... @ToddC ?
You might think... we'll see. You making it? Flying in? (we can find something for you to ride)

Really isn't going to be the same. I think over half of the "regulars" are all North of the border!!!

Not trying to start a post office theme. There's just not much signage in Peshastin...
