Afternoon Guy's,

I recently asked for help on how to replace the Clutch Slave Cylinder seals on a ST1300 2004, and was kindly given a guide on how to do it. I tend to video everything I do on the motorcycle, hoping that it may well help someone else out along the way, passing it forwards so to speak, so I the link to what I believe is a step by step guide on how to replace the seals on a Clutch Slave Cylinder is below.

Great video JasonB - an excellent contribution to an ST1300 problem that seems to be increasingly common as these bikes age. It is sort of amazing - when I had my issue a couple of years back, I searched and only found one or two Forum members who had ever done this job but there has been a steady stream of folks since then.

The only comment I have is that I headed-off the confusion about the seals issue by simply replacing the entire clutch slave cylinder with a new OEM unit from Honda. It cost me about $75 CDN - and when I priced the new seal kit, it was around $60 CDN - so the whole new cylinder only cost a bit more.

Great video.

I bought three slave cyliners to replace those on my 2010, and both 2004s. So far I've only replaced the 2010s. I'm currently working on the 04#1, sooner or later, I'll get to its. :eek:4:

Edit: I replaced my clutch slave this weekend and everything went fine. Thanks again for the video Jason! Your videos are a big help to me.

Does anyone have a link to the guy who replaced his clutch slave cylinder by laying the bike on it's side ( CAREFULLY, lol) and claimed it much easier?
 
I have a much easier, and faster method.
Takes me about 45 minutes, which includes the flush and bleed afterwards.
You just need a couple special hand tools, a center jack or floor jack.
It’s all about having the correct tools, and using the correct approach.

I'll be getting in touch. I rolled mine out today to go for a ride after the long winters nap and went to grab the clutch and all the fluid was gone.
 
I just sent you a private message, and will be standing by the white courtesy phone when needed.
 
I found that the rigid line was keeping me from aligning the banjo bolt correctly. There is a single bolt holding it to the back of the engine on the left side at the bleed nipple. By just loosening the bolt I was able to finger start the banjo bolt. Doing this with the rear tire out adds more access but you should be able to do this with the rear in place.
