Honda st1100a ignition

Hi all,
Can anyone give me advice on what is the best way to change an ignition on my pan european st 1100a it's a 2002 model.my ignition has rusted up I've tried oil plus wd40 so I've brought a new. Any advice or videos would be great.
 
IIRC, there are three Torx bolts that hold the barrel in its housing, accessed under the triple tree. One of them is a security Torx bolt that requires a special Torx socket to remove it. That bolt has a tiny "pimple" in the centre that sits inside the business end of the Torx socket. A regular Torx socket without that detent for the pimple will not go onto the bolt.

The wiring for the switch is removed from its connector under the shelter cover. Hope I'm remembering all that correctly.

Depends... early models had "torque bolts" which head sheared off... you'd need to punch an indentation and drill off the head...

Number 32 in that parts fiche that UP posted is the special Torx bolt, I believe. It secures the switch assembly to the barrel, if you need to change the switch.

Well, on the 2002 parts fiche, the #21 bolts are called an 8mm socket bolt, which appear to be holding the barrel into the housing. Do they not accept an 8 mm socket on your bike? I thought they were Torx headed bolts when I had to change the switch assembly on my 1995 model.

I've had a look and they seem to have a dome head there's no place for adding a torx tool.

As expected (and mentioned previously), those are the early version, which 8mm head sheared off at a rated torque (same type used in cars BTW)...
You'll need to drill the heads off to get the lock out...
