Yes, but the 5 x 9's load deck is higher and the ramp is not any longer. On old 5 x 9s the ramp is actually not as long making the angle from ramp to deck more steep. It weighs 450 lbs more than a MT. Gross weight is something to think about with smaller FWD SUVs or pick ups.

Yes, but my main point is that the motorcycle trailer must be returned to the same store it was rented from and 5 x 9 trailer can be returned to a different store. Jay did say he was going a "far away location" to pick up the RV. Not real handy to have to make the trip back by tow vehicle again to return the MC trailer... and then home... again.
 
Good points here! I am going to want to keep the trailer. Don't want to overspend. Just want to have my ST1300 with me when I travel in the RV.

One other point, if you decide to go with a Harbor Freight, check for the stores near where you need it. It took me two or three weeks for mine (one I had to buy last year about this time, because I couldn't get a rental trailer) in to the Sacramento area.
 
If you are not in a hurry start looking in online marketplaces for used motorcycle trailers. I did this last fall and found a nice 4’ x 7’ for $600.
 
PS... If you do go with Harbor Freight remember to remove and repack the wheel bearings before first long distance / speed towing. they only put a finger of grease on the bearings. it is not hard to do because the wheels are not mounted on the axles.
 
This is just me and my thoughts talking. You have to do what you have to do. However If I was to pull a ST or my FJR behind a motorhome I would want a well made trailer that is designed for motorcycle hauling. This is what I was able to score for a very reasonable price. New Old Stock, Ride On Kendon Trailer. I got it for about half the original cost 15 inch wheels a wide stance, well built with torsion suspension and the welds are excellent. Not to mention USA Made. Well worth the cost and Piece Of Mind.
Again One has to do what one has to do. Good luck with what ever you decide.

I made my trailer from the chassis of a pop-up camper; the kind you crank up the top half, then fold out the beds on each end. I demolished the camper, painted the chassis, installed lights and wiring, and more recently put on new tires and had the wheel bearings serviced.

The bed is a full 4' x 8' sheet of 3/4" pressure-treated plywood with wheel chocks made of P.T. 2" x 3" lumber on edge, lag-bolted from below, and four eye-bolts for each of three possible bike positions, one centered or two side-by-side, although two bikes is kinda tight.
 
Hey SupraSabre, is that a V65 Sabre in your first pic? I have one, been sitting for a few years, not sure why I just bought the ST1100. The way your Sabre is equipped, it should do everything the ST will do. Aren't the Hondaline saddlebags on the Sabre extremely rare?
 
I forgot that I used 2x2s when I redid it several years ago, and one rear 2x2 is missing. I'll probably go back to 2x3s, or maybe a combination. I use the short strap on the rear wheel to hold the ramp in place.

I want to add a pair of side ramps for my feet like S.S. shows in post #19.

That was a 1985 V45 Sabre. I brought it down from Canada, back in 1999. What a hassle! DMV didn't like me bringing a Canadian bike down, although they did register it. ;)

I did own a V65 Sabre, bought it in 2003, and then two years later bought my first ST1300. Due to the miles I was driving and how much better the ST1300 handled, than the V65, I sold it 1 1/2 years after getting the ST1300. I had sold my V45 to one of my sons. (BIG MISTAKE - I actually wished I would have hung on to it.
