I'm trying to add some extra running lights and maybe an extra brake light which will go up on my top box I also want to install a USB charging port for my phone and I already purchased a mount for the handlebar using the two screws that hold the clutch and hydraulic clutch assembly .

QUESTION: Where on my 2007 ST-1300 is a good place to easily access and tap into a supply of positive electricity that is only controlled by the key switch?

PS I can add my own in-line fuse to this new circuit I'm putting in, so I don't really need it to be fused separately.

Read entire thread, I believe there are slight differences for pre-2008 bikes.

I was in a hurry to get the bike ready to ride this weekend so I just made my own power circuit and attached one of those SAE 2-pin connectors to the end so I can plug it into the connection for my battery that is normally used by my battery tender.

This circuit is always live, of course not controlled by any key or switch

So I'll just manually unplug the connection when the bike is parked for more than a couple hours. If I'm on the road and stopping to eat, it wouldn't hurt to let a couple sets of LED tail lights glow -- I don't think the power consumption would matter.

You might be inundated by other riders' advisories of "Hey somebody left their lights on".

The 1300s are a little light in the battery reserve capacity department. LEDs do draw a lot less than incans but I'd be tempted to test that in the comfort of a tender/jump starter/buddy with jumper cables/lovely beverage. In just playing with the stock tail light On and Off I managed to drain a good battery in 10 min. Everything lit up like it should but the starter solenoid just clicked. That was not constantly On for 10 min. There was some irony in the exercise as I was wiring in two LED rear marker/blinker lights to replace the rear side reflectors. YAMV.

A simple relay you can get at any parts store .. use #86 and tap into a running light wire . It only takes miliamps to work the relay so no worries there,. Ground #85 and 30 will go to battery (fused) and 87, not center pin, will be key on battery power.
