What's your brew?

I have never had a cup of coffee.

Day to day, mostly Gevalia French roast but there are intermittent dalliances with Black Rifle (Basic Black or Beyond Black), Starbucks Cafe Verona or Italian roast, and the occasional Kona light or medium roast if I've been to Hawaii "recently", as seems to happen a couple times each decade.

Lipton hot tea (brewed 3 mins with a timer) with 2 spoons of sugar and a dollop of Vit D milk. First thing in the morning, a couple mid day (carry a thermos of it with me if not going to be home) and last thing at night. Been my drink of choice since I was a little kid. Had it with every breakfast before school as far back as I can remember.

I can fill my cup under the drip, then place the carafe back.

Not from my coffee maker, though: the carafe has to be in place to push up the spring in the bottom of the grounds basket, or the drip stops. That's the manufacturer's method to support the feature of "interrupt and serve". But you're right: catching the first drops from the brew yields a very bitter potion, best treated with some sort of lightener such as you suggest.

If I use the French press there's no drip to catch and no bitter first cup.

To elaborate, for most of the 19.5 years P.J. and I were together, I would grind her custom mix of beans and set up her coffee maker each night, complete with a sprinkle of salt.

Another tip she taught me is to place a second paper filter on top of the salted grinds, which helps keep the underside of the hot water outlet parts cleaner.

We have 2 machines for coffee..a Cuisinart drip machine that was fed a diet of freshly ground Starbucks French Roast and due to that bean no longer being sold here is now getting Starbucks Verona..
The Second machine is a Phillips LatteGo that gets fed decaf espresso beans that it will turn into a Latte, cappucino, a machiatto and a few other things that I don’t drink.
Regular Hi-test in the mornings, Decaf for afternoons or evenings.

If Safeway has it in stock, Kicking Horse , Kick Ass, beans to grind, failing that Nabob traditional or Organic.
Favorite alcoholic drink, Brown Cow 2/3's Kahlua 1/3 milk, second Favorite Screwdriver. Sorry never liked Beer inherited that from my Dad,dang I miss him.

I am a pretty simple person. My coffee is Folgers Half Caff made in our home coffee maker. Add a packet of Splenda and a bit of coffee mate and I am happy. However my taste for beer is ........... which I cannot get here in the US. But then again it is not always the beverage it's self but in the atmosphere which one consume it.
