I did a strip and clean of my brake calipers yesterday and noticed some wear in the rear caliper bracket. Some material has fretted away not sure if this is a common issue and at what point I should think of replacing bracket ? caliper.jpg

Hi John.

I am of the opinion its not a dont ride it but certainly something I will want to address sooner rather than later.
I have taken a photo for the same angle you did and you will see a significant difference.
The bike has done 135000 km,s ( about 84000 Miles )

Are you sure you have the correct pads installed? The backing looks diff than Johns and also shorter.

A couple things jump out at me on Biggo's enlarged picture :scared2:
The first thing, is the rear pads are NOT the correct Honda OEM pads, and they are missing the white heat shield etc.
The second thing is the front clip (silver) has slipped down from the center of the retaining square on the caliper housing.
This often happens when the clips get bent and loose their grip.
As John pointed out, it appears too far to the left, and appears that the tab has been bent pretty badly.
Once this happens the clip slides back and forth on the raised square (see scrape marks) and applies pressure to the aluminum housing at the corners (wear you noticed).
I would not start looking for new calipers right away, I would instead recommend that you purchase a new clip.
RETAINER, RR. BRACKET 43112-MAJ-G41 Retail Price: $6.33
Make sure when you install the new clip (and the correct pads, with all the correct parts) that it clips firmly in place in the center of the raised square area.
This should correct your issues.

The pads are Vesrah at present.
The previous owner gave me a comprehensive service history below is pad history. It had goldwing pads fitted one time not sure if that was the issue they were changed out after 8660 km,s

Brake Pads
Pad Wear Rear Front
4344 84860

5th 32756 Changed with tyre, still 1.5mm
4th 8660 May have had incorrect pads fitted
3rd 36333 Used 1800 Goldwing pad on rear.
2nd 25257
1st 19350 41840

I think this may be historic damage from having incorrect pads some time ago . I think if its lasted that long I will get some genuine pads and monitor the situation

Cheers Phil

sounds like you rescued this bike from the prior owner :rofl1:
Replace the clip (damaged) and put Honda ST1300 pads back in it and you should be good.
