Anyone looking at purchasing a VSTREAM windshield for the ST1300 needs to read this.

I have recently purchased and installed the VSTREAM windshield and have incurred a problem that I want to pass on to other potential customers. The windsheld blocks wind very nicely with one exception, and that's a big one.

In the full up position, the notch in the bottom of the windshield allows air to funnel directly into the chest and face as if there is no windwhield there at all. I discoverd this after one short 10 minute ride. Lowering the windshield helped somewhat with the wind in the face and would probably be ok in the summer, but cool or cold weather riding is out of the question.

I bought this thru EBAY from American Classic Motors in Zieglerville, PA and upon contacting them about the problem and possibly exchanging this one for a Rifle or something similar I was informed that once it had been put on the motorcycle, it was mine and no exchanges or refunds were allowed. Lesson learned from this dealer.

Anyway, I solved this problem by putting a piece of 1/8" thick 5"x10" piece of Plexiglass I bought at Lowes, over the big bottom slot of the windshield attaching it with Industrial Velcro. I used a heat gun to bend the material for a better fit the curvature of the windshield. This solved the problem and also allowed me to adjust the amount of wind I want in my face from none at all to a small hurricane. Almost looks like it was made this way.

I'm not sure of how to post pictures with this, however if you would like pictures, email me at txdon2006@hotmail.com and I'll send some.

Tested this velcro attachment at over 100 mph for about 4-5 minutes to see if I could dislodge it, and I didn't. Stay put just fine.

That notch was intended to serve a purpose, that being to allow some airflow under the bottom of the screen to balance out and cancel some of the backpressure that will otherwise push a rider forward.

If you need the windshield so high that the air coming under it is a problem ,then you really need to re-examine why you feel you need the screen so high.

A rider should never look through a screen, always over it by at least 2 inches.

If wind noise is an issue a quiet helmet and good molded ear plugs are the solution.

Some riders like to look through the screen and depending on the wind, I sometimes do. I believe there is no absolut rule here. What works for one is not necessarly going to work for all. Wind noise isn't the problem as I have great helmet(s). It was just the direct blast from the cutout that got to me.

I don't know where that rule came from, but I have heard it many times. I think some people don't look through their windscreen, just because they think they aren't suppose to. I keep my windscreen perfectly clean, and ALWAYS look through it. I see through it just as good as I see through the windscreen on my car.

Interesting. I had a VStream and never experienced this problem. The mounting bracket has a low and high position. I wonder if mine was mounted lower or higher than yours.

Old thread, but what the heck! :D

I have never liked looking through a motorcycle windshield. And I've had windshields on my bikes since 1972. What I really like about the adjustable windshield is I can put it right where I want it at the time I want it there. I'm adjusting it all the time.

As far as the VStream goes, I love them. I'm on my second shield and will be putting one on the 2010, once I have it back together! :D
