Fellow ST enthusiasts:
Anybody know where I can find VIN (V.D.S) information for a 1996 Honda ST 1100?
I would like to know what the V.D.S. "SC260" means in the following VIN: JH2SC2608TM600420
TIA... :)

The "SC260" means that the bike is a standard ST1100 (with no ABS, TCS or LBS/CBS, and no police electrics) that was imported new by the USA's "49-state" market. Such a bike could not be imported new by the USA's California market, the 50th state; get it? (If it were a standard Cal, its VIN would read SC261 instead. If it were a standard Canadian, it would read SC262.)

* You could look such a bike VIN up yourself in the tables in the front of the Clymer ST1100 manual. (Are those tables once again online?)
* You could look it up also in the American Honda Motorcycle Identification Guide, under ST1100 1996. (Is that online anywhere?)
* You can also look for a "VIN decoder" online although some of those will try to sell you a Honda service department history on the bike.

And should none of those sources be helpful, you could go to a Honda Parts dealer. Some of the online parts dealers explain VINs. All parts dealers must refer to frame numbers/VINs in order to make sure they are selling the correct vintage of parts, for the correct model.

By the way, the universal code "T" in your VIN confirms that this is a 1996 model. (And going from memory, the second "6" in the VIN, at the start of the serial number, is Honda's way of saying that this particular model is a 1996 model.)
The "area code" or "country code" for this bike is "A". You may see that code written as (A) in some parts lists. The official name for this model is 1996 ST1100T (A). The area code for California is "AC". For more on country codes, look on this nearby page: https://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?152339-We-Briefly-Surf-our-Terms-for-TURF .
We also had a thread here about using parts lists that confusingly have the codes A and AC in the titles, but I've no link to it. Anyone?
For VINs in general, you might want to look on Page 3 of the thread titles in the Archives of Wisdom, on the site ST-riders.net . Here is a sample page there: http://www.st-riders.net/index.php?topic=3486.0 , which will probably lead you to the same page provided by member jfhealth above. (I agree with all that John posted above.)
I believe that's the engine type code.
49-state USA models do differ in their engine-related components, compared to California models.

Picking up an old thread here about VIN decoding, is there anywhere you can decode the VIN number of an ST1100 to read which countries it was manufactured for, which years it was manufactured and what equipment it was delivered with when new?

I'm thinking if a bike was manufactured in 1995 but not sold and registered until 1997 …

We can use this ST1100 as an example: JH2SC26D9YM400060
