Well I never, I think I'm first. The Dark Italian Roast is ready. It is quite splendiferous.
Cool, but it's stopped precipitating for now. Blue skies and breezy but the winds will blow later. They're saying it'll be proper wild but.....meh, we'll see I spose.
We're off to Alnwick upon the Aln for a little shopping. I neeed more silicone. I always need more silicone; perhaps I'm addicted. But where do you find Ivory Silicone on a Fursday? Pffffffftttttt.
Besides that we will buy too much food, wine, whisky and associated accompaniments than is good for oneself. But who gives a.......just make sure you've got good medical cover or an appointment for a fat jab.
That brings a new take on the meaning of Christmas.....all I want for Christmas is a fat jab!
Av a gud un and remember, sometimes you need more than health insurance.
Upt.

Thx Ray!
Hehe, what a start!

5˚c/41f, 40mph wind from southeast, rain.

Met the person behind the Charlie Brown christmas three up in hills yesterday…
I’ve wondered for years who’s doing that.
Turned out to be a loooong story.
Talking points;
  • Serious illness
  • Crippled for years
  • Long recovery
  • Symbolic act
  • Yadayadayada
As there were no motorcycles involved, and being more of a walker than a talker, I swiftly moved on.
Told her the three had been viewed by people both in the United Kingdom and its colonies.
She had never heard of Charlie Brown….

Today is just removal of a central vacuum cleaner, driving my daughter to the airport, cooking.

Have a good one, and don’t let silicone make you slick!
Stu

good morning all. D.I.R. will work for me this morning. thanks Ray for the coffee. 49F on the dog walk with a clear sky full of stars. got some running around to do that should fill most of the morning with stuff to do. wife has started Christmas cookie baking. that keeps her busy for a few days. the high should see 72F and 3 mph wind gusts. enjoy the day

stay safe

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the delicious start, Ray.

We’re at 45F, which is the high for today. Dropping to 25 by mid-morning and back up to 30 this afternoon. Pffftt. It’s only cold when you go outdoors.

I’ve been reading up on advise for having hip replacement next month. How bad can it be? They remove your leg, put in a new U-joint, which needs a break-in period, all under the influence of pain medication.

Can 3 mph really be a gust?
It's all relatively relative I spose.
Relatively speaking.

G'Day...

1°C morning temp, windy, mostly sunny, won't go over 5°C during the day though...

Today's coffee art:

Screenshot_20241205-060826.png

the cat and the nuke... well, those felines always aimed for world domination...

Yesterday ze GF was supposed to send her Daytona GoreTex riding boots for overhaul; minor leak on one, some stitches fraying...
Well, she returned with a big box wedged under her arm...
Yep, she bought new ones instead... € 390,-... on sale!... € 460,- regular...
Now fry me a stork and call me Shirley... not so long ago such amounts were a month's net income... pfffff...
At least she got herself the girly-edition with the heel-plateau, might give her a better stand on that NT700... she was always tip-toeing there...

On the more positive side, refueled my thrusty Toyota... 50 ltrs (premium) give a 700 km range (7ltr/100km ~ 33.6m/gal)... not bad for an old, full sized estate...
Fuel prizes are eye-watering though... € 90,- for the tank (€ 1.779,-/ltr)... back in the 90ies, filling that car didn't even take € 30,-... pfffff...

On another note: out postal service is in distress...
due the "green deal" they'd to swap to EV's... the bribery is strong in this one...
at first they'd then almost lost the "green" certification over having ordered/installed the wrong tires... on the whole fleet...
now it turns out that the range of their EV vans dropped below 120km/75miles...
drivers have to turn off the heat (uncomfy, risk potential due fogged windows, etc...) and prematurely return to base for recharging...
so in case you're waiting for a shipment by the Austrian Post... be patient...
but hey, at least they can advertise with "zero CO² delivery"... AKA zero delivery... pfffff...

oh well...

have a nice day...

It'll be a breeze fella, definitely not a gust.
Glad it's you though.

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the Italian dark roast Ray.

It's 38°F, cloudy, and headed for colder and blustery as a cold front moves through later this morning, starting in a couple hours. We're told to expect some rain, possibly heavy but of relatively short duration, at the leading edge. The mercury will drop all day, like a slow leak in a tire, ending at around 29°F by midnight. Welcome to December.

Besides that we will buy too much ... whisky ... than is good for oneself.

That puts me in mind of the quip I saw over the door of a pub in Inverness a few years ago:

What's on for today? I've no idea, but it'll doubtless be summat.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them.

Good morning, all, and thanks for the Italian Roast, Ray. Hits the spot.

Yep, it snowed, and it is still snowing. Not too much accumulation so far - looks like we got a couple of centimetres yesterday (maybe an inch or so). It is currently snowing big, fat flakes and the precip will continue as a rather messy, mixed bag of wet snow/rain/flurries until about 5 p.m. Today's temps will range from -1°C/30°F feeling like -5°C/23°F to 2°C/36°F with a feels-like of -2°C/28°F. Looks like there's another storm system coming to dump some more white stuff on us this weekend, though Montreal might get it as freezing rain. Oh, joy, oh bliss. And I have to travel to Ottawa on Sunday. Good thing I'm taking the train.

Everyone have a great day, stay safe and go safely.

Patty

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee start, Ray.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in MA!
2" on the ground right now, but it'll stop or switch to rain around 9-ish.
33, going to 39 are today's temps.

I got to the gym, and walked our neighbor's dog, yesterday, while the PC did the windows update that @ST1100Y talked about, yesterday.
Our contractor finished hanging the cabinets, and installed the kitchen floor.
He'll be back for the moulding.
He also told me to expect the electrician this Saturday.

Today, I've got a barber appointment, and she's on the way to the gym, so...

Enjoy the day,
Steve

What's with the falling temperatures all blummin' day? Same here, and i know it's going to be a lousy day when you wake up to the warmest it will be all day. Pfffttt.

As I leave work early today for an appointment, Kaiser stays home, meaning I will ride the bike. Yes, I have Roz' permission for him to spend the day with her. Warm and Safe. Me and him.

So thanks for the Italian Roast, Ray. I'm glad you got here first.

Interesting note about United Healthcare CEO's assassination in NYC yesterday... I'm currently trying to get re- enrolled in Medicare Part C, which in our case is UHC because Roz is a retired state employee. Medicare dropped me earlier last year... and it was THEIR mistake. Flippin' gummint.

And Martin, there are roughly 600 US Postal Service ( not a federal agency, but private, by the way) police, tasked with pursuing federal violations of mail laws. By far, the majority of these federal crimes are committed by... postal service employees!

They take mail home, look for checks and cash, or just dump loads of mail out in some field or in the woods. My late mother sent me a birthday card with a check in it about 5 years ago, and I never got it. It was returned to her home 8 months later, marked as "Undeliverable." She had mailed me things before that, and after, all with my correct after. Our mail service at our home - in an established suburban area - is not as reliable as the runners of ancient Greece.

It's getting colder already.

Pfffttt.

Good morning all!
Thanks for the hot start Ray!
You certainly deserve one of Dave’s hugs for that!!
Partly Sunny, a high of 75 with a WSW breeze
6 -17 MPH here in Ridge Manor Fl.
Sis is treating us to breakfast at her fav breakfast spot then we’ll head down to our snowbird digs to see how much work needs to be done!
Here’s hoping your day is good!
@Nashcat
Good luck with your hip replacement, it sounds like a major operation to me, but it’s now a common operation! Obviously you are in a lot of pain to be considering getting it done!

Make sure they add a zerk fitting...

Ah, due the "welcome culture" such has become so common, that it rarely makes the news anymore...
Occasionally they find several hundred parcels ripped open somewhere in the woods... an abandoned postage van somewhere else... no trace of the driver... gone with the wind... investigators find that falsified documents have been used for achieving employed... likely organized...
Then there the cases where the deliverer simply resigned... bags of undelivered mail found hidden in his/her basement... he/she was "overworked"... yeah, the mail never stops...

Never lost any of my shipments though, but OTOH is most handled by Amazon, DHL, DPD, UPS, FedEx, Hermes and GLS... some in cooperation with the Post though...
Speaking of which: the shipment from Schuberth is inbound, spares for GF's C3 pro helmet... the post.at online portal informs: "delivery period unknown"...

Good morning, not sure how mine is going to be. Been in the hospital since Sunday morning, some how got a blockage in the digestive system. Well it is cleared now ,time Google what to eat .
Thanks, but No Thanks for the Coffee Ray , probably not on the menu for awhile. Thank God I live in B.C. all covered by government health. Start solid food this morning, hopefully .Cheers Shiny side up!

In-line with what I was getting at in our discussion of the other day. People tell me about the crippling mounds of snow that are coming, or the extreme rainfalls that will cause flash flooding, or the oppressive heat that can kill you, etc.. They see it on the weather network and it is often a more severe forecast than what I had seen from Environment Canada. Often it turns out to be exaggerated. It seems as though they take everything in the data to the extremes of what is possible rather than focusing on the probable with their forecasts. Click-bait is my guess. They are a for-profit network who needs to drive revenue by not only getting people to look, but also by keeping them looking.

Morning all! Grey, overcast, foggy and chilly. It was, according to the gauge on the bike, 4C on the ride in. I think the fog likely lowered that a bit. The high will be 6C and possibly rain later.

Our posties are out on strike, about 3 weeks now I think. Hasn't really affected our house much but it's putting a crimp on mailing gifts for a lot of folks. I don't begrudge unions but I have a bit of hate on for the postal one here, likely incubated by the relentless strikes in the '70's led by M. Jean Claude Parrot. Man was effective though.

Countertops went in yesterday and they are stunning. The blinds go in today and the contractor is going to see if he can get the electrician and plumber in Friday instead of Monday for the final bits. After all the nonsense, the last 3 months have been a breath of fresh air and we now have a gorgeous new house as pretty much everything was replaced except the structure and external cladding. All she will need now is a new coat of paint in the spring. I'll try to post some pics in the next day or so. I appreciate everyone's patience for my moaning and groaning over the past couple years.....years.....yeeesh.

We have our group Christmas party this afternoon. I am assured it's a much better time than the overall department one last week. I think I lasted 15 minutes at that one. Here's hoping...maybe the old supervisor will attend, I am told he rides so must a decent fella.

Hope everyone has a great day and enjoys the posts here if not in reality!
