Hi guys

I have an 02 st1300 which I bought with 16000 miles on it - now has 19000.

Went to take it out today and it was very very difficult to select 1st and 2nd gear, I could not get any other gears.

Oil level is OK and oil and filter changed at 16000.
Clutch is not dragging.

Suggestion please.

Thanks

Paula

Check the linkages between where the drum shaft exits the transmission and the pivot where the shift lever attaches. There's some wiring near the shift lever that sometimes gets hung up and makes shifting difficult. Also check the condition of the linkages, because it wouldn't surprise me if the UK-flavored gunk you have out there got something frozen up.

It just might be old oil or the wrong oil in the crank case. I am just trying the easy things first. I use synthetic amsoil with no problems.

Wow

Thanks guys :bow1:- lots to check out in the morning.

Will let you know how it goes.

Remove, clean and lube the shift linkage.

That was my problem a couple of years ago, the ball joints in the linkage were frozen with road gunk. ST1300 would not shift, felt like something was broken, I was very relieved to find it was only dirty linkage.

Well took the bottom tupperware off and linkage was grotty, cleaned and liberal amounts of ACF50 applied, now have all gears.

Found L/H exhaust (muffler) clamp had been attacked by tin worm so two new clamps now on order.

Bike now ready for the Afgan Heros Run on Mothers Day - 10,000 plus bikes attending.

Once again thanks to all for guidance. :bow1::bow1:
