ST1300
Hi Folks, first time post but not first time reader.
I had an ST1100 in the past and always wanted to try ownership of a 1300.
I now have acquired what seems to be an ST1300 'Limited Edition' from 2008. I wasn't even aware of this status before I bought it.
I cannot find any reference to a Limited Edition here, or out in the WWW.
It appears to have some cosmetic adornments which I'd rather not keep as they look a bit out of date and in your face.
I'd like to find out what made this version a 'Limited Edition' and what extras came with it originally, if anything.
If any of the stickers on it are original, and specific to this 'edition', I guess I am stuck with them as I do like to keep things original.
Any info about this Edition are welcome. I will upload photos of the 'extras' later.
Thanks.

Never heard of such...
Might be someone "personalized" it...

The only "edition" I recall was the ST1100 50th Anniversary Model, that came in a very different paint scheme... (hence the nick Bumblebee...)

Yeah, I remember that one! I wonder what was special about it, other than the colour.
Thanks.

I'm guessing you were either told something because it help the previous owner for selling it, or he'd bought it and been told that. There were no OEM special editions, other than the police ones.

I didn't know it had this 'Limited Edition' badge until I got it home. The seller (a dealer) never mentioned it.
Looking at it more closely, the badge is a squashed down depiction of the British Union Jack flag in silver and black (the bike is silver), so may be just a Honda UK special.

I would like to see photos of the Special Edition Bike.
I am not 100% sure it is a 'Limited Edition', it has this badge on the front. The badge could be from anywhere. I'd be happy to remove it and the other stickers if there's nothing genuine about them. I was also wondering if there was anything else 'extra' on this model, besides stickers (if genuine), that came with it.

It would be simpler if you post photos. Someone on here will know whether it came from Honda or not.

I can't say about special cosmetic editions that may have been released only in a given part of the world but invariably there will be someone on here from that part of the world who will know. Photos will sort that out.

Mechanically/technically there was never any special edition of the ST1300 that I have ever read about save the police version.

Technically, unless they produce a bike forever, it's a limited production. ;)
That pretty much makes ALL bikes 'limited production', doesn't it? Which brings up a serious question. Are there any bike models (or even cars) that have never gone out of production?

I remember reading that Porsche has simply made continuous 'improvements' (ok, changes) in the 911. Since this model is still in production*, even though today's 911 bears only a faint resemblance to the original 911, it fits that description.

* If perchance, Porsche has stopped producing this model, it simply shows how closely I watch this marque (or don't).

The big change to the ST1300 was from the 2008 model onwards. You have to be careful when buying because many of the 2006 models were sold with 08 plates. I know this from looking at adverts. The label under the pillion seat and the VIN will indicate ST1300A-8 for a genuine 2008.

This upgrade largely affected the front brakes. The calipers and pads are a different design and the ABS system uses a slotted steel disc on the front right wheel - so the sensors are different as is the ABS control unit. The horrible hex socket pad pins were replaced with longer pins with a hexagon bolt head - and was made out of something that didn't get chewed up each time you undid them more than once.

The ECM was also modified to (apparently) give more low down grunt and a mixture that is not too weak as seemed to be the case with the 06 model. (that information is assumed by me based on a sample of one of each. The 06 pinked lightly but readily under load, and needed a lot of clutch slip to get up steep hairpins. The 08 has never pinked and on hairpins you can let out the clutch and drive it round.

08 and later model have a full grey plastic insert in each side panel - which hides the battery case and surrounds the rear suspension pre-load adjuster. But you have to be wary of that, cos people like me bought those parts cheaply and and added them to their 06 model.

I was looking around for a replacement for a few years (waiting for a new Pan replacement to be announced). I never came across a special edition. The 2009 model ST1300A-9 in the UK continued to be the latest version through to 2013. My A9 came of the production line in mid-September 2013 - so they were being produced throughout those 5 years start of 2009 to end of 2013. A 2014 model came out a few nanoseconds after I bought 2013 model. ST1300A-E. I have yet to find a difference between the A9 and the AE - except the radiator, and a couple of different - colours blue and a slightly darker red. The later version of radiator was fitted to the A9 model part way through the run.

I have yet to spot a difference between the A8 and the A9 models.

Well, there's the Goldwing, but technically it's had a lot of changes and realistically is only still the same in name, and that it shares the same commonalities as most motorcycles. :)

My ST is going to be a limited edition... I'm going to 3D print a couple of BMW logos & stick them to the fairing just to mess with the local bikers I hang with. :p
You mean something like this (note it is 'HMW' not 'BMW')? ;)

Like this?

I have always been confused by the "need" to make a Honda look like a BMer? :unsure-2x:

Back in 1976, after just getting to my base in Germany, I bought a BMW 4door car, while waiting for my Vega to get shipped. I only had it for two or two and a half months, but I had to replace the clutch in it. After replacing that clutch (and a few parts related) I swore that I would NEVER by another BMW product! That German engineering was way OVER ENGINEERED!
