Re: Article: ST1100 Timing belt change - Full walkthrough

Nice!.. Promoted to an article.

Good depiction! I especially like the removal of the frame extension. Certainly creates a lot of work room....instead of just the 'wiggle room' you have otherwise.

Why on Earth remove the exhaust headers?
Don't need to - you do have to remove the frame crossbar.
Also the plastic cover can be pried out so you don't have to remove the oil pan.
You will just need to trim it a bit to get it back in place (instructions on this site somewhere - just a dust cover anyway).

Two belt R&Rs without having to remove the frame crossbar, Phil…

I know - but it made it easier for me to get to it and took very little 'extra' time.
Sort of like removing the two hanger bolts on the rear mufflers when doing a rear tire change ... ;)

When I put a wrench on those frame bolts that hadn’t been touched in more than two decades, I realized the Grey GhOOST would soon be in a state of ignominious recumbence!
A little PB Blaster and mine came right out on my 97 ... ;)
But all of mine are 'garage queens' and if they are parked outside they are fully covered - even on trips.
