Hello
I have had the ST1100 off the road for several years. I have started the bike regulary and run for several minutes at a time. I have just had the plastic painted and put it back on the bike.

So now I start the bike and in itially the clutch leaver was siezed in the master cyclinder so I sprayed some WD40 and that freed it up. However, when I put it into gear it stops the motor. Its like putting it into gear without using the cflutch.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I need to look for??

There is a small switch on the Clutch lever perch that can cause it. It needs to make a connection or the engine is killed when it leaves neutral. They are still available.
Also Check the 2 wires are connected, they do come loose from time to time.

Does the bike lurch forward when you put it into gear or just die? If the former I would try flushing out and bleeding the clutch fluid. Since the bike has been sitting a while, the fluid may have absorbed moisture and deteriorated.

If it just dies with no clunk or lurch, then I agree with above about faulty clutch or side stand switch(s).

Like they've said.
But, where did you spray the WD40? Just on the pivot or into the cylinder area?
If the piston rubbers have WD40 on them that doesn't sound good.
Upt.

Put it on the center stand in gear , not running, wire tie the cluch lever pulled in and see if you can spin the back wheel . By your decription sound like you need to go through and rebuild the clutch hydraulic system. If the clutch fluid is that bad the brake fluid probably is too.
