Wife is having knee discomfort when sitting on longer rides. This is making it tough to get out together. I came up with the idea that if I installed floorboards for her that this would help. So I started web searching, I didn't expect much and that's what I got. But I did read that floor boards from the GW would fit on the ST1100.

I found these on the Kuryakyn web site: http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/4306/Gloss-Black-Premium-Mini-Boards
Just to be sure I sent this question to the Kuryakyn chat box.

I am investigating passenger
floorboard products for my 2002
ST1100. I've read that Goldwing
foot peg/floorboards fit. The
mini boards 7579 or 7578 look
promising. What do you think?

This is the response I get:
Hello Ron

We are sorry Kuryakyn does not call out for a fitment on your ST 1100.

So my question is has anyone tried to put these on and would you share your experience? :bow1:

Not enough room for them IMO. Your feet, or heels, would be conflicting with them, if you like to change your foot position on the pegs from arch to the balls of your feet. Ask the wife if you can buy a GoldWing for her comfort.:D

Ron,
I have been contemplating the same thing for the same reason! My concern, as Bush pointed out was whether my heels would run into the boards. However, when the wife is on back, her feet are there anyway. Do you know if the boards you were looking at can be folded up like the foot pegs do when the pillion is not occupied?

If you want to try it out and post a report, I'd be happy to read it! Higher priority for me right now is a seat. Might just have to give in and go for the Russell.

Good luck.

Hmm, actually not... in a natural seating position the tips of her feet/toes would point outward...
I only have spacing issues in tight corners with extreme leaning angles, where I change my foot position for having the balls on them pegs (my size 13 hoofs hanging off are prone to drag... )
I'd investigate her seating position first, maybe she tends to take an unnatural seating/leg/foot position for some reason...
Maybe a different saddle makes a difference, yet even a different riding pant, as some fabrics cause the pillions to slide on the saddle during load changes.

Yes these floor boards are shown folding up. I'm not sure if the old system that holds them up will work with the boards. Also not sure if the angle of the bracket will yield a flat surface. That's why I'm asking here to see if someone has tried it. Maybe if the Kuryka people have a good return policy, I'll take the chance.
I have a Day Long saddle on the ST1100, and love it. Had one on the Pacific Coast as well. There is nothing else like Day Long in the market. I'd suggest you check them out and study their construction. It would be worth it.

Very good suggestions, thank you. I'll do that, but I think its a chronic arthritis problem she is struggling with. She probably does not move her feet off the pegs and exercise the knees while we ride. I was thinking maybe the footboards would help her feel like she could slide her feet forward and back a little as we ride.

I tried to put them on my 1100 and they were not good I did find that Rivco has some
that will work but you will have to modify the mounts but my wife likes them so you
know how it goes happy wife happy life

Re: ST1100 Passenger Floorboards - Yes you can

Christmas present for my wife since she has been asking about the possibility of boards for a couple years. Wasn't sure it was possible but it is. Not cheap but a straight forward swap. Hopefully they will provide the comfort she is looking for, will find out riding to Stagecoach on Tuesday!

Went with the Kuryakyn ISO metric cruiser boards #7916 (since I had the chance to do a rough test fit using the one's from a friend's bike) and used the splined adapter mount #8818. Adapter uses set screws to adjust and lock the adapter into place. floorboard mount provides the fold pivot. They don't extend as far forward as she might want but if they extended much further forward, they would be into the back of my boots!

Link to a thread showing a different style installed on ST-1300, not sure of the make.

Re: ST1100 Passenger Floorboards - Yes you can

Really interested in doing this and perhaps ready to order, can you let me/us know your/pillions experience with these, so far. Sounds like easy install...no tools?

Thanks.
