Spencer's Seat Mod review

I just had both seats modified by Spencer. Front seat lowered and LD gel. Let me start by saying the communication and turn-around time with Spencer is outstanding. I live 2 shipping days from Spencer's shop. I sent my seats to him Monday evening, and I was riding Saturday afternoon. Spencer answered my emailed questions very quickly as well.

The quality of his work is top notch. The front seat is reshaped in a way that makes me feel like I'm sitting "in" the seat instead of "on" it. My 29" inseam legs hit the ground more firmly(I still can't flatfoot, but the seat doesn't come with stilts). I noticed on my ride yesterday that I wasn't as angry about the stock grips. I must not be leaning on the bars as much.

The best part is spending $25 might have saved me $500. The changes in the shape of the passenger seat completely eliminated the wife's problem with sliding all over the place. Her experience on the back went from "take me home now" to "ready to go again?". She no longer demands the topbox with backrest to go for rides.

I couldn't be more pleased. I hope to plan a 200-300 mile ride soon to review the long distance benefits.

$100 to do both seats(vs 500+ for aftermarket).

Thanks Spencer!

I'll add my own Spencer review here. I had the seat done (standard LD mod - no lowering or anything special) over the winter and hadn't spent more than 3 hours at a time in the saddle and was waiting to submit a review.

Last week i took a 5-day trip to visit some southern states. The itinerary:
Day 1: Cleveland to Spartanburg, SC - mostly slab
Day 2: North Georgia mountains and south thru Alabama to Panama City Beach FL
Day 3: to New Orleans (mostly slab) - stayed in French Quarter - Fun!
Day 4: to Memphis, taking secondary roads along the river
Day 5: slab back to NE Ohio

Total miles was around 2800. Near the end of day 1, the two hot spots that i experienced with the stock seat reappeared. My riding partner said "what, you're complaining about pain after 500 miles in the saddle". The hot spots occured again on day 2 - probably after 300 miles or so. I'm 5' 11", 160 lbs. and wondered if the foam was just too dense for my relative light weight. Day 3 was sort of a day off, but i had no pain whatsoever.

After riding a few hours on day 4, i noticed that the seat actually felt pretty comfortable - like i was being cradled by the seat. For the rest of the trip, i had absolutely none of the hot spot pain again. And days 4 and especially 5 were quite long days. Yeah, i can't say there wasn't some discomfort involved with sitting in the saddle for hours at a time (we typically stop every 130-150 miles, refueling every other stop) but the seat was as comfortable as one could expect. And any discomfort was of the stiff joint nature.

So to summarize, i think my seat needed a break-in period, after which it was as good as can be expected. Well worth the money. Why anyone would pay big money for an aftermarket seat before trying Spencer is beyond me.
