I have looked for days on information about lowering my seat height on my 2001 st1100.
What seat offers the best solution? Looking to drop height a minimum 1". Riders that have real experience with this issue, please enlighten me on which seat you use and how much seat height it changed.... I'm 5'8" 230lbs, inseam 29" roughly.... just need the bike to be a little lower for my feet.

I have a Saddlemen seat (had them for years)- you sit more in the bike than on it (so it does lower seat height by about the 1” you specified). I’ve been happy with them:

Maybe you can source a used one on eBay vs buying new

To me the saddlman seat is wider than the stock seat so it made my legs shorter when at a stop. I am not a corbin fan but i do set lower and it did improve my footing at a stop. IMHO the stock seat is a horrible mess as it acts like a ski slope for rider and pillion towards the “tank”

I use a progressive rear shock with the preload backed off and a Corbin seat. I have also slid the fork tubes up about 1" in the triple tree. It works fine for me at 5'6"

I bought an OEM seat that had the padding at the front carved out and replaced with other firm material. It made the seat 1 inch shorter. Also had a Works shock that had to be rebuilt. At the time they were in business you had the option of making the shaft 1" shorter. The only problem with that is that the indent in the muffler doesn't line up with the axle nut, there are many ways to deal with that though, but just be aware.
I am sure you can find an upholstery shop that can shave the seat for you if that is the direction you want to go.

I had Spenser do his magic on my oem seat but he is long since retired. What he did was carve out the center of the seat and replace some of the foam with a honeycomb type. The result was a 1" lowering. As @Sunday Rider said, you should be able to find an auto upholstery shop that knows this stuff and can do what you want. I too found the custom seats - RDL to be too wide and that exacerbated my short legs. @Woodchuck had someone lower his bike, and from what I've read that usually involves a custom or modified shock and raising the fork legs.

Another member here got a BMW and had his cobbler add 1" soles to his riding boots. (He is renown for his peach cobbler.). You could also wear Jimmy Choos..... :rofl1:
