Hello,
I recently did my first valve check/adjust and in the process took a look at my reed valves (pn 18601-MCH-003).
Two were missing, one was glued shut. Evidently the previous owner has different feelings about quality maintenance than I do.
My option here are to either source 3x new reed valves, which seem to cost about $25 each + shipping (when they even are in stock. Seems like lots of places don't even have them).
Or to block off the whole system using block off plates which seem standard for Hondas of the era (about $50 total shipped).
Advantage there is it would make the underside of the Airbox and valve cover removal easier for future valve checks.
Would I see any negative effects removing these reed valves and installing a block off plate (as well as remove and blank off the pair hoses under the airbox)? I have a stock exhaust and no other performance mods.
I know I wouldn't see any performance change from this - just verifying my understanding that there would be no mechanical risk to doing so.
Thank you!
