Hi all

Just coming back to the club after nearly 8 years of absence following my last ST1300. Just bought myself a new-to-me 2004 ST1300 with over 65k in Candy Red (avatar picture). This is my 3rd Pan and started originally with a ST1100 before graduating to a ST1300 which I loved. Also have had other bikes previously but I found myself enjoying the Pan much more than I was anticipating so this will be my long-term keeper.

I used to commute all year by bikes about 45 miles daily and the ST1300 was my favourite of all that I have had. Unfortunately a series of identical but minor accidents (drivers changing lanes or doing U-turn as I was filtering) gave me the hint that maybe I should commute by car before something more serious happens - at least until I retire - hence the interlude. However, can't seem to get rid of the itch so I'm back.

The Pan has 2 previous owners over the last 20 years so much loved. It also have only a few tasteful modifications (Corbyn seats, Bike-Quip bar riser, Honda top-box with integrated brake light and top rack, 12V outlet in the glove box and also a throttle lock cruise-control). I have since removed the pannier reflective stickers which have seen better days. Looks very original and tidy.

Luckily, I have also found the Haynes manual which I bought previously (I do almost all of my own servicing) - admittedly in almost new condition so I'm ready for the extended relationship. Just need to put more miles on it now.

This forum has been super-useful and friendly previously and I hope to contribute to its success once again.

Welcome back Flapajack. I've had my 2006 for eight years now. I ride mine pretty much every day. Odometer ready to flip at 100k. I live in the Sierra Nevadas, so there is always another mountain to explore. Have fun! Rick

Welcome back to the Pan Clan!!! I'm also in (currently soggy) Surrey...

I was there same; had bad spill on my ST1100 December 2011, couldn't scratch the itch any longer and bought my ST1300 10 months later - still using it after 12 years!!

Strongly recommend trying the IAM for your advanced ticket - not worth it for the insurance discount but a real game-changer when it comes to your riding style and spotting the SMIDSYs in plenty of time!!!

Yes, done the IAM many years ago via the local TVAM and got the green badge. Was more for the group outings than anything else but the training did learn many useful tips. However the club becomes a bit "lost" once you have passed the IAM test as they don't know what else to do with you - focus was entirely on getting people passing the IAM test.

Excellent... Getting the ticket and experience totally transformed my commute....

Suggest you try LAM (London Advanced Motorcyclists) - they have a very active Full Members' calendar...

Thanks for that

Had a look at LAM locations and they are a bit out of my way, TBH. They seems to have a lively full members calendar of events though.
