Hi everyone a little story for you all and hopefully a few suggestions.
I have a 2011 1300 which I got some time last year.
Not long after I got the bike i decided to get it checked over by a Honda dealer, cost £100, fair I thought for peace of mind.
When they had finished with the inspection of the bike the mechanic said the bike was all good except for this noise which I had never noticed.
When he rode the bike from the workshop he revved the bike up a few times, fairly high revs, and explained that no one in the shop could explain where the noise was coming from except that it was in the area of the exhaust under the bike
I was then told that they could strip the exhaust and put a camera inside the exhaust to see what was going on but that would cost hundreds to do.
I explained that the exhaust had only just been put on by me and was brand new from the headers to the silencers and declined there offer.
When I rode it home I only heard it once when I opened it up to overtake.
The next day I stripped the exhaust off completely an checked every inch of that exhaust and found nothing. There was no loose clamps and no blows so I am now stumped.
Bike is running great.
So if anyone on this forum has had a similar noise I would be very curious as to how you dealt withe it.
Thanks.

It's kind of hard to diagnose a noise absent a recording. It is even more difficult to do so with a description that simply calls it a 'noise'. Did you put on an aftermarket exhaust or use all OEM parts? I've not read of anyone having a rattle or buzz at high revs from the exhaust. What did the tach say when you heard the noise? I think I remember one person saying he had an exhaust noise and he replaced one of the muffler 'gaskets' (not really a gasket, more shaped like a tube where the muffler enters the crossover).

While I've never heard of using a camera on an exhaust system, I suspect he wanted to look at the catalytic converter with a bore scope. No idea what dealers in the UK are like, but a lot of them over here have seen very few ST's in their shop, and the mechanics are getting younger with less experience on older bikes. There are many many stories of 'certified Honda mechanics' at dealers creating problems and being guilty of shoddy repair work. I'd wager that the overwhelming majority of owners on this website do their own maintenance.

I think you should ride the bike until the noise gets worse or it becomes an issue. You said the bike "is running great". That's all that counts.
