I recently won an ebay auction for a police solo seat, rear cowl and radio mount. I plan on doing some touring this year and thought the radio mount would be a good base for a rack. I bought a 20 foot stick of 1/2" square tubing, 16 ga. and ended up needing 10 feet more. After LOTS of drawing and welding and grinding the rack ended up being 18" by 24", dual level. The bottom smaller level is sized to fit an engine starter/ air compressor/ USB port/ 12v/ 120v/ LED light all in one unit. Pretty handy. I coated the rack with POR 15 then shot on a few coats of Krylon Satin black. It mounts at 6 points and is pretty sturdy. The lower level has a solid bottom but I left the upper level open to make it easier to place hooks etc. I plan on getting a large waterproof bag, or maybe 2 medium ones for gear. I also got another rear body section (ebay) and filled/ smoothed in the cutouts for the passenger grab handles. A fair amount of trimming was needed to clear the rack on the upper part. Came out nice too after a matching custom color paint job. Enjoy! Oh, I have put quite a few miles on the solo seat and it is quite comfy, better than my Corbin 2 up.

Cool, nice job. I sure like that color!

Very creative!

I had the storage version of the cowl on both my ST1100s. Not as roomy as a topbox but much sleeker and very convenient.

I have just won myself a pod and seat on fleabay also that I had intended on using for long distance stuff and hadn't seen the storage version before. Now I know how to cut the one I won to make it even more useful.

+1 on the colour scwten. Looks good bloke and hope it brings many happy miles.

Thanks for the complements on the paint! I am digging the storage cowl, never saw one of those before. I was thinking of using my cowl to make a mold to fit directly over a factory seat without removing the seat. Could be cool. Now maybe I need to look into makng a mold of one that opens....hmmm.

From the distinctive color, it had to be your bike in the recent Killboy Deal's Gap Pix.

Good call SilverSTreak, that was me. I was following my buddy Dale on his V-Rod. He could pull me pretty hard coming off the curves but I was all over him through the turns. I could have kept up better coming out of the curves, but I left my ST in 2nd the whole time. We made one pass from the dam all the way to the end where that big parking area is in 20 minutes. I believe it was 14 miles. That doesn't sound like all that great of an average, unless you have riden The Dragon. Only scraped my pegs a few times!

Very nice rack and paint job!

Did you paint the exhaust black as well?

That's a good looking rack!

Careful though, the Fire Department may see it and want to make a ladder truck out of your bike!

I really like the color too!!

Mark, yes, I painted the exhaust too, same satin black after a little prep work, the paint is sticking well so far. The only parts that didn't get either blacked or orange were the valve covers and that huge piece that holds the pegs and exhaust. Both would have been way too hard to remove and/ or tape around. I have a friend that powdercoats so maybe one winter I will take her apart and finish the job. Good one about the ladder rack sirepair, better be a short fire though...

that huge piece that holds the pegs and exhaust.

I saw an 1100 at Moonshine that had those polished. It looked fantastic. I thought chrome at first. He said it was not too bad to do. Several grits were used and a lot of effort but boy did they look nice. Sorry I don't recall the guy's name. CRS you know.

Rich - got the gantry/foglamps on the back, or just a cowl?

I think I will look out for one of them opening cowls to replace my non-opening version.
Seeing the weather has been rain rain rain, I have been.
Changing my dashboard to blue led lights---looks great.
Changed the standard screen for a Puig tall smoke screen.
Got a new 12v socket to fit.
Ordered some nice ovalish blueish tint lights for the police front brackets.

So rain go away!
