Ever seen a pink elephant? You know, something odd, or unexpected so much so that you have to rub your eyes and check that its really there? Yeah, here in southern New England winter has been having a go at us the past couple weeks. Proper cold, low teens at night and not getting above freezing during the day. To top that off the wind has been howling for days now. Think 20kts, gusting 30, which with the temps is unpleasant. A few minor snow events have left the roads white, blasted and encrusted with salt and sand. So the stage is set...

Yesterday I'm trundling to work in the company buggy with the climate control set at 70*F and the heated seats on. The outside temp says 16*F. Rolling along at 65mph just before a bridge on the interstate that has traffic entering on the LEFT, I hear an odd engine noise. Sounds like a large single cylinder engine. Odd. Then I spot it. A motorcycle! Not just any motorcycle, it appeared to be a KLR650 with a sidecar! The rider was merging from the left and was crossing 5 lanes of traffic on the bridge to take the first exit on the right, same as me. The wind on the bridge is brutal, think 30+Kts or more with gusts. I backed off and let the bike cross in front of me. Had to rub my eyes as I didn't really believe with I was seeing. Rider was bundled up like the Michelin man. think ATTGAT meets Nanook of the North. The apparition exited the highway and went on its merry way. I gotta say, I did feel a slight twinge of envy mixed with inadequacy. There was an "ADV" sticker on the back of the sidecar. Indeed sir, indeed.
