Our D50 is fading fast. Want to replace it with another Nikon since we already have lenses. My wife likes to point and shoot. I like to be creative and play around with the settings so I am interested in something that can produce good images regardless of who is using the camera. Any recommendations from any Nikon users out there for a replacement that is easy to be creative with and produces blow your socks off images? I would like to keep it at less than $1,000 but will go over that limit some if it is worth it.

I really like the D5100 Chris and boys gave me for my birthday last year.
Here is a link to Nikon lens compatibility that I found...

Good luck!

P.S.
The new D5x00 (I think it is a D5200) has wifi built in... cool!

Another site with another table that might be more easily deciphered...

got both my girls the D5100 for Christmas. The new 7100 is supposed to be fabulous, so it's time to get a bargain on the 7000. good luck -

Carole and I both have 7000's and have had great results. Fast focus, simple to use, and your lenses will be compatible with it. The big difference between the 7000 and 7100 is the video capability of the 7100.

Be careful that your lenses are compatible... IF you have older screw operated (non motorized) lenses, quite a number of the consumer level bodies are only compatible with the AFS (motorized) glass.

I have D2X that I've been milking for a number of years... So I haven't kept up with the newer models.

I love my D90. If your lens will work, they can be had for around $800 for the body only. It offers near instant power-up and shutter lag is around 65 milliseconds. I've been a Canon fan for years, but got a great deal on this Nikon, and the more I use it, the more it sways me toward Nikon. My only problem is what to do with my Canon lenses and flash.
