Hey all, new guy here. This is the first motorcycle forum that I've been on in years and I hope to get educated on the ST1300 platform. My last bike was a 2002 CBR1100XX (Blackbird) which I wrecked hitting a whitetail on my way to work back in 2009. Bike was totaled, and I haven't owned a motorcycle since, but looking at getting up on 2 again & was considering between an FJR1300 or a ST1300. I'm leaning toward the Honda for the reliability/dependability, and I don't need the extra HP/Torque of the Yamaha. I'm 62 years old and will be using the bike for day trips mainly, not really long distance touring. If my cataract surgery goes well in Feb, then I will be looking for a new steed. Looking forward to learning and speaking with members on this site for valuable info. Glad to be here!

Welcome back. Having ridden both the FJR and the ST I much prefer the ST1300. It's just personal preference but I have enjoyed a number of ST1300s. It's funny but I have zero experience with the ST1100. I am sure they are great as well.

Deer are cheap, good on you for taking one out.
The XX? That's a shame. They ain't making any more of those.
Welcome from Birmingham, where summer has now long been gone. I've never ridden the Feejer, but enjoyed the Blackbird, and now the ST1300. The main issue I hear of regarding the Yammie is the ergos, but of course that all depends on your physical build and your inseam. At 72 inches tall, the ST fits me very well, stock seat and pegs and the rest. The XX was comfie for me as well.
If you are familiar with the LBS on your XX, it's the same braking system on the 1300, including the Secondary Master Cylinder.

Thanks again y'all!

Sadlsor,
My 02' Blackbird was my favorite motorcycle out of the 4 street bikes that I've owned. I started in 1980 with a Kawa KZ-400, (I think a 1975) rode it 1 year & bought my 1st HD, a 1972 Superglide. Had that almost 20 years, then a 1995 Electra-Glide Classic. Well, I got tired of drinking the HD cool-aid, wised up, and bought my first Honda. It was the absolute best motorcycle decision that I've ever made. I will never own another Harley. (enough of the bashing) This is the longest period in my life that I have been motorcycle-less. (15 years) Once the cataract surgery is over, & I sell my Camaro SS/1LE, I'll be buying a sport tourer again.

Welcome to the forum! I do the sort of riding you are planning to use your next bike for. I find the ST1300 is excellent for riding on highways and county roads where its power and handling shine best. The weight of the bike can make it intimidating but once you get accustomded to its low-speed handling characterisitics it is quite nimble in tight, low speed turns and city riding. Even without a top case, the two side panniers are large enough to hold any gear you'd want to bring on a day trip. My only complaints are that the stock seat is not particularly comfortable and the rear tire can be a pain to air up with a standard air pump due to the tight fit between the center of the wheel and the top of the valve stem.
