Boots My Birthday Boots

The wife wants me to retire my 20 year old Alpinestar boots. They are as comfortable as a well worn pair of jeans, but he soles have lost their traction. With a big bike like the ST, that can be a problem. Wanting not to spend big bux on Italian street boots, I told her to look about the $100 range and she comes up with Tourmaster Solutions. They say waterproof or weatherproof. I want to wear these regardless of the weather, did we make a mistake? I have a pair of rain boots that feel like concrete on my feet. I think they are old Frank Thomas Aquas or something, and my old Alpinestars I sprayed with waterproofing stuff. I have yet to wear the Solutions, but will they soften up and be adequate for daily wear, or are they truely onlly for foul weather?

June issue of Rider Magazine has a Boot Buyers Guide - couldn't find it on their website, but according to the author, they passed his "dunk" test, so they live up to the "waterproof" part

The Solution was the least expensive out of the 10 boots they tested/reviewed, and apparently good value for the money.

He said they were snug & comfortable and that the boots were "reasonably pliable" but didn't say much else on long term comfort/wearability.

He also reviewed the Alpinestars.

I've had Solutions for a year. Like em. Way confortable for all day wear, including off the bike, so far so good on waterproofness. I think they're a great value.

I've had the solutions for a couple of riding seasons. I found them very comfortable for long rides. I have a wider foot and got the size 9 which is about my size and it worked out well. I still have to work hard to get them on but once I have them on I can go all day.
I think you could spend a lot more and not do as well.

I tried on my size(9) at the IMS bike show (a great way to test fit many apparel items) and found them too snug for my liking. I find it impossible to order boots and helmets on line without trying them for fit in person.

I have the Tourmaster Solution boots and love them. I have worn them all day many times and find them to be very comfortable. I consider them to be very good value for your money and run true to size. I ride to work most days and wear my boots all day at work, they are great.
