I'm thinking of taking a long road trip on this ST 1300 that I just picked up the day before Thanksgiving. Looking at doing a ride to South Florida and maybe all the way to the Keys. Due to work schedules I would have to do it the week of Christmas either before or after and the weather looks more favorable before I'm thinking Monday and Tuesday December 23-24.

Anybody else in the area want to meet up and ride part of this trip with me?

PS I won't be riding very fast; I have a damaged mirror on my left side and I don't know if I'll be able to reinforce it before this trip so I might want to keep the speed down around 75-80 MPH max.

No you will not be riding fast. If you haven't gone to the Keys before its 45mph and lots of traffic from Homestead south. Not to further rain on your plans the traffic around Christmas in FL is nuts! Lots of people on vacation and all the snowbirds heading south. Be careful out there.

I've never been to Southern Florida except one short business related trip to Miami, 30 years ago, and that was an "in and out" lightning fast trip. I did not see or do anything in the Miami area.

Never seen the Everglades,
never been to any of the Florida Keys.

Go in May or June. It’s just better with snowbirds gone or on their way home. Otherwise you may never want to come back.

Why?
Are the main roads going to be traffic jammed? Not even able to ride 40 mph?
I don't intend actually "play tourist" there and do much other than have one seafood meal at one restaurant. I won't be hitting the museums the antique shops, the stores, taking guided tours of architecturally significant homes. I won't be trying to rent a boat or a jet ski..

What’s the ride plan for a two day trip? I-75 South to Turnpike to US 1 then US-1 to Turnpike to I-75 North?

Regarding Miami, that previous trip probably has you well covered. It's a little too crowded for me.

You may want to try Loop Road in the Everglades and also Check out Lucky Coles place which may only be open on weekends, it's on loop road as well.

Shark Valley is also a good stop off 41, the tram ride back to the observation tower is worth while. If you have the senior national park pass be sure to bring it for both Shark Valley which is off 41 and it will also save you some cash for Everglades National Park as well.

Both the above are best early in the morning. The parking at Shark Valley fills up fast.
