Was in Dick's Sporting Goods today looking for lights for my daughter's bicycle....and wandered through the camping section....saw a Marmot Aspen minimalist 40 degree bag....really small....wondering if anyone has any knowledge of how good they are or if they use one......thanks.....ff

7x16 pack size is typical for a lot of 40 degree bags especially down. That one is synthetic so it is small for that category but not overly small.

What's important to you, the pack size, cost or rating? I always try to stick with down bags for the smallest pack size for your target temp range but they are more expensive and marmot is in the mid-to-high $$ range for sleeping bags typically. Great quality and they stand by their stuff.

I have one, good bag for summer camping, and doesn't take up much room on the bike. Using compression straps you can compress it much smaller. Can get a little tight in around the shoulders if you want to zip it up all the way when it is cold. I managed 32 with a fleece liner in easily but the liner kept moving around making it a little uncomfortable. 40 degrees would be its limit without a liner. For colder temps I'd get something else.

No good for adult, I have one in my basement I will sell you but it would be for a child. I am not that big if a guy but I couldn't fit in it comfortably. I ended up getting a big agnus down sleeping bag, It has plenty of room and packs down pretty small because of the down. I tried to sell it in my yard sale for $15.00 and no one even looked at it. So I threw it back in the basement.

Thanks guys..........the small size being non-down was appealing....and so was the price.....I'd like to do a few overnighters on my VFR and space is at a premium on it.....I've always gotten the tall size anyway.....6'........and the non-down is a lot easier to deal with if it gets wet..................might have to take one home and try it on for size.........thanks again.....................ff
