Know Your Riding Risk Factors

Folk don't like admitting that, but it's true of course.
I cringe at the tales of daring do where riders enthuse about....."it was only 800 miles in a day, it was only 14 hours, I decided to press on, it went dusk, but there were no beasties on the road, I wished it had a bigger tank"!
When we are tired we don't ride well, you can't concentrate for over long spells and when you are hungry, cold/hot, talking on the phone, it might not end well. Then understand that everybody else is doing the same.
Not good.

They missed the most salient point with regard to comparing riding to piloting. Currency. In order to fly, and fly competently, pilots are required to maintain currency. The more you perform a task, usually the more familiar you are with it and you are more effective. For those that don't ride in winter, we all know that "rusty" feeling in the springtime. I know that I feel it a little with just a few weeks of not riding. If you haven't been out in a while, take it easy. The simple thing is obviously don't stop....

Being in a big tour stretching over several weeks, already the first corner pulling out the parking lot in the morning you sense it... achtung baby, not my day...

If I'm not "feeling it" 100%, I stay off the bike.
I've done enough stupid/dangerous things in my life to know when to say nope.
