I have had a couple of comments from other motorcycles and my brother that the tail lights and brake light on my ST 1300 just don't seem very bright, so a few weeks ago I added three new running lights for the back of the trunk box --2 of them are oriented left and right of the lid handle, and one is above the latch handle .

But none of the above are rigged up his brake lights now. Two of them had the capability of being both brake lights and running lights, both, but when I touched the brake light wire to the battery the increase in brightness was barely noticeable, so I decided to leave those just as running lights and install a special new brake light that was only going to be extra bright, and it would not be used as a running light / taillight.

I finally found that in the form of a small LED flasher meant for emergency vehicles like fire trucks or ambulances, and it blinks at a rapid rate when energized .

But, not wanting to tap into my bike's brake electrical system and also not wanting this extra bright emergency flasher to stay on constantly if I'm holding my brake lever for three minutes at a traffic light, I decided to rig up a momentary contact switch and attach it to my brake lever.

I finished that today and now I am working on adding some extra flashers for my turn signals, which seem to have a problem --the factory turn signal switch is sticky and or loose and I have to wiggle it to get the turn signals to blink and they don't stay on for long on their own.

I also want my amber left and right turn signals to be further away from my bike center line so I'm going to mount the new turn signal stems on the outside edges of my top center trunk box.

Pics coming soon as soon, as soon as I can connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Somewhere in here is a thread where I hooked up a LIN 3 to just the lever, not pedal, so it doesn’t burn the eyes of the people behind me at traffic lights. Minor electrical surgery was necessary though.

There are auxiliary lights out there (check out Whelen - an excellent brand) that offer a number of flashing modes. I used the Whelen M7 on my ST, then VStrom, now my NC750. It flashes 4 times then holds steady. I personally do not like a constantly flashing brake light. From other posts I think that is illegal in most states, but is not enforced. A bright stop light that flashes then goes solid would be, imho, less objectionable...but I'm no LEO.

I think your idea of a pushbutton on the handlebars is cumbersome, and that extra light might not be used when you need it. You can tap into the bikes harness with positaps, and even use that as a trigger on a relay, if you wish. There are many ways to do what you want. What exactly are you asking here?

I was stopped at a red light, with about one car length's space ahead of me when a car flew through the intersection behind me at full speed. I saw him coming, expected to become a hood ornament, and started rolling forward and to my right, hoping to escape this turkey, when he slammed on his brakes and screeched to a stop. I had been sitting at that light with my brakes on when I saw him in my mirror. With your idea, my bright M7 would have been off. I'll never know why he decided to stop.

The rear brake light switch on my ST1300 had just enough adjustment that I could hold position at a traffic signal by not rolling up/down a gentle incline and still not trigger the Whelen strobe head from flashing. A light touch on the brake pedal held the bike from rolling yet did not trigger the strobe. My NC700X's brake light switch is the same way. I think on many bikes the switch has a threaded barrel and can be adjusted slightly to still work when pressed.

I recently installed an Admore light bar on my V85TT. They had a plug and play adapter that made it very simple. No cutting wires or anything. I tried to email them but found pretty much a brick wall unless you question fits their format. A little expensive for the 2 parts but I'll see how it works out.
