Is Motorcycle Armour useless?

Armour works, as long as it's good quality CE rated stuff and in clothing that holds it correctly. Lots of textiles are useless in this respect.
I know from experience and mine is staying in.
In one collision my left knee took a wallop, enough to remove half the cylinder head off an ST11, my knee was still there.
Upt.

As long as people realize the only 2 pieces of equipment designed to save their lives are a helmet and an air bag vest and that the rest is there to mitigate road rash and to disperse energy to try and help prevent broken bones. None of it will save you in all circumstances and most of it will help you in minor circumstances. Run head on into a semi at 80 mph and nothing is going to help. Hit some gravel and low side at 30 mph and all of it is going to help. Anything in between is a toss up.

I'd rather have it than not, but I see lots of riders every day wearing none of it, who also make it home safely that night.

Fate is a funny thing.

I've had a few "minor" mishaps on a bike. With one I shredded my jacket sleeve from the cuff to the collar, broke a riding boot toe cup in half, and resulted in other garment damage. But I didn't really feel a thing and had no damage to myself. I'll keep wearing it.

edit: forgot to mention the 1/4 inch gash in the side of my Modular helmet and much road rash on the back. Yeah, I could have easily been a vegetable from that one and I was only going barely over 25 mph!

Being an Aerostich wearer I had never seen any other "armor" until I purchased some other gear. The supposedly CE rated armor in the other garments I have purchased is a complete joke compared to the Aerostich stuff. Supposedly the Aerostich isn't CE rated, but looking at them side by side I know which one I'd rather be wearing. I'll keep wearing the armor. Doesn't hurt my chances any....

Been riding with out armor padded gear all my riding career,40 plus years. Yes I have a leather jacket and custom made leather pants, and good quality boots. Did learn something new from watching both videos, when I replace my riding gear with new, getting the right size armor for me is most important, one size doesn't fit all.
Myself I found if I don't have over protective gear on I ride a lot more carefully, cheers G

As has been pointed out, there are some instances of crashes that all the protective gear in the world will not help.
However, I still will use riding gear with armor, helmets and air vests for those times that it will make a difference! ;)
And hopefully the latter will be the case and not the former.

The dude has figured out how to generate clicks, I’ll give him that much.

When are people going to realize there are no guarantees in life? Would you rather fall off your bike wearing no clothes or wearing ATGATT? Two of my friends went down wearing full gear, one at about 60 mph on a state route, he slid he thinks about 150'. Not a scratch, but a number of bruises. Another was pushed into oncoming traffic by a deer, he was going well under 50mph but he hit an oncoming car - he died instantly. No guarantees. Ill go for statistics - and fewer injuries if I'm wearing the armor.

Anyone who thinks a hard hat will save a construction worker from a pipe wrench dropped 30' above his head has the wrong idea, yet everyone on construction sites wears them...and they do save a lot of bumps and bruises.
