As of SUnday, the heated grips on my 04 ST stopped working. The lights on the controller/indicator light up but the grips do not heat up....could this be a blown fuse? I haven't had a chance to explore the problem, but thought I'd ask...

Thanks
Danny

What brand of heated grip?
oems are wired in series so if one goes both don't work.
If the controller lights up it's either the controller, a grip or the wiring to the grip I wouldn't think it's a fuse.
.02 one of the grips went out.

Keep in mind that flashing controller LEDs is an indication that the grips are ON, but the voltage is low, and the controller prevents the grips from heating up.

Have you seen the schematic in the ST1300 FAQs? Here's the link.

Oops, maybe I should have included this schematic?

Same thing just happened to mine..
lights on but no one's home..er... no heat coming through...

My Left Heated Grip has open circuited and since in series Both no heat. Mine are the Grips purchased from Honda and I am told they are no longer available. Found a set at the Toronto Motorcycle Show that look almost identical for a whole lot cheaper. (Darn it the Honda F6B Goldwing not at show)

Oxford Original Heaterz Heated Grips Open End $99.99 Regular Price and I got a Show Discount -- I will be using the Honda Controller

Check out the links in post 3.
Most heated grips are connected in parallel. The oem honda in series.
Either way presents the same load and works with the honda controller.

The symtech and dual star foil elements that go under the grips of your choice are around $40

Maybe this is clearer.
Either solution
The oem connected in series
or
Most aftermarket connected in parallel
present the same load to the controller.

Also be sure to null out the test leads measuring low ohms.
I have a set that are 0.7ohms on there own.

And yeah we agree you can't connect either design the wrong way.
one fries the controller if it's not internally protected, the other results in almost no heat.

Saturday morning I took a little ?550km (?340mile) breakfast run and found my hands froze as the temp was 3 degrees C. (37,4F).
Almost spoilt my breakfast...had to make sure didn't eat my fingers..hehe

And today I spent a little time and repaired my heaters and now they're all ready to make my hands nice and toasty...

The problem with these (Honda issue - have had a set on each ST I've bought as standard), is that they seem to break the wiring just where they enter the grip! (inside the sleeving so its not to obvious)
Took a little care (read: battled quite a bit as the ends were so short) and cut them open, soldered with heat shrink at the ready and closed up and used a little black silicone to finnish off.
They look OK but most importantly they work again!!
