So, after all this time on my ST1300 and trillions of joyous miles, I'm riding North from the Pyrenees this morning and only now just realised my bloody dial is upside down. Ha! maybe it's the Frogs legs and Snails that fine tune the brain & eyes while riding this wonderful country...
Thing is, can I just pull it off and push it back on the right way up? being all these light years from home and the sanctuary of the man cave, I don't want to break the bloody thing and have to fix it later.
Can you tell I've nothing to do of an evening in each Hotel each night - other than drink beer.

Yep, good advise, not that I need any encouragement to drink beer!

I'll break it at home rather than in Limoges. :wine2:

I never pulled mine off, but most electronic type knobs fit on a shaft with a machined flat. The hole in the knob is 'D' shaped. That means it only goes on the shaft one way.

I would think the Honda knob is secured with a tiny screw. Best to leave it til home. I would not suggest any alcohol until you get home, maybe if you eat enough frog legs and escargot you will think the knob is right side up.

I was thinking these knobs are either fixed with a small grub screw or a tiny curved spring sitting on a flat part of the bar.

Probably best as suggested to check it at home. :thumb:

I bought a used and neglected 2006 ST a couple of weeks ago with a knob from some kitchen appliance or old car on it instead of the stock knob: it sticks out about 2".
The rheostat post has a D profile and the knob should pull straight out like mine does.
I have to get creative and design a proper knob to make on my 3D printer... I may label it "warp speed" just to see if anyone notices.

Most of those electronic type knobs have a flat metal spring inside to bear on the flat of the switch's shaft. How will you do this on your home printed knob?

My guess would be that he will print the knob to match the inside profile of the old knob and then scavenge the spring from the old knob to use in the printed knob.

I haven't thought about that part yet.
So far, I've only put some thought as to whether or not to replicate the original or make up my own design.
I could pull the spring out of the old one or put a drop of glue on the end. I can also make it to exact tolerance for a very tight fit.

The design part takes time (an hour or two) but the cost of the print is negligible... probably under 40¢ so if it falls off it's no big deal.

I have thought of having some real fun: making a selector type switch knob and adding labels to the dash... marked M230, Hellfire and Stinger.

Okay, good feedback there, so if it's a "D" shaped bar it's only going to fit one way and there's no advantage trying to take it off and re-fit it.
I'm sober now so I'll leave it be.. Ha!

So I finally got around to making a dial.
I've uploaded three versions and have so far put the shorter one on & it was a good snug fit.
If it doesn't stay on in summer weather I may reprint it in ABS or PETG.
It's no big deal if it falls off... 20 minutes to print and 10¢ in filament.

Update: I've replaced the three with one file.

Are you sure it’s not just adjusted one way?

Judging by the product picture it cannot be flipped...

Forgot all about this, just had a look at the button and it's not easily removed so I think I'll leave it alone.

There are two moulded stops set into the Dash that match the button - so there's no way of changing it without melting or cutting into the plastic.

I removed mine a while back and it does in fact just push on/pull off but it was very, very tight. I had to fit small levers under the knob and pry it off.
