Purchased a new 2024 Kawasaki Versys XLE650LT. Ridden 200 miles so far. Really enjoying it thus far. Makes me very sad as I just realized how dated my beloved ST1300 really is. Wind management on this bike is far superior to the ST even with its stock windscreen. Somehow there is nice airflow, no heat and best of all no turbulence. Did they actually put this in a wind tunnel? It has ABS , traction control and just enough tech without over doing it AKA newer GW and Beemers. Still throttle by cable and clutch by cable. What a joy to ride as it is 250 pounds lighter than the ST.

I'm planning to look at the Versys 650 tomorrow. My only concern is the lack of power, I have not owned bike less than 70 hp in a long time. I think it will be s great commuter and touring bike.

Smooth move, congrats! Getting a new bike is something we should all do - I took delivery today of a new Tenere 700. Who's next?
Tenere 700s are great little bikes, I've test ridden a few of them, after I completed the PDIs. The Kawasaki Versys are great bikes too, I really liked the 1000.
You guys are just over a year late :) picked up a 2023 Yamaha MT-10 just over a year ago now, incredible machine!

Keep the RPMs above 6k and there is plenty of fun to be had. They like to rev.

Power is not an issue due to the light weight. It does require more shifting of gears than the ST. I’m still getting used to that #6 lol

I’m still under 200 miles so unfortunately I haven’t been able to test the 6000+ power.

I understand if one actually cares to "break in" a new engine, that short stints at higher revs helps to seat piston rings.

But you don't keep it there.

Many mechanics believe the worst thing to do to a new engine is to drone for extended periods at the same rpm.

Very nice bike- I’m going to the Kawi website to check it out.
EDIT: Just looked and for me, I would likely get the 1000 SE (but that’s for my needs)- the 650 is a very nice bike in its own right…

Must…not…look…at…new…bikes…
OK, I’m better now.
