Honda ST1300
Hello everyone, I just bought a 2002 ST1300, 136,386 km on the clock, 2 previous owners, bought it from a Honda concessionary here in Salamanca, Spain.
This is my first ST1300 and my first tourer, I'm also new here in Spain, I come from Costa Rica, I'm used to Enduro bikes and scooters, my previous bike was a 2017 Honda XR650L that I bought new and rode many, many kilometers on all kinds of terrain until it fell apart  I bought the ST looking for a bike to tour Spain with my wife as a pillion and get to know all the nice places.

Doing some research I saw that these bikes can get serious mileage until they ask for major maintenance, but this one being a geriatric 2002 model with a fairly amount of kilometers on it's back, what should I be expecting to invest on maintenance before venturing into a long distance trip? and now that I have it and can check deeper, what should I look for? I'm mechanically inclined and have taken apart a few bikes and cars.

Thanks in advance for all your feedback!

Welcome from Northumberland, England.
With regards maintenance, check all the normal stuff, brakes, bearings, tyres etc.
The Secondary Master Cylinder will also be worthy of inspection and probably changing it for new.
Search on SMC here and you'll get the problem area.
Enjoy the bike once you've got her sorted.

Thank you all for the feedback! Another question, are these bikes noisy when in need of a valve adjustment? No ticking noise on this one at all, just trying to check if it requires a valve adjustment or not.

Thanks.

Welcome from Nova Scotia Canada.. flush brake fluid every 3 years. There is a specific sequence follow to a T. Flush antifreeze every 3 years..

Keep and eye on antifreeze level, tire and brake pads...

Ride.. Ride

I bought my 07 in May of 07 and has 152xxxkm

Greetings, welcome, do what your colleagues tell you and... drive, drive, there are better ones but they are not st 1300.

Hi ST-Charro. We have been in Salamanca 2 years ago. Stopped there on the way to Leon and Pecos (Potes). Loved that city. I'm wishing to retire in Spain.
As for the valves, I don't think it gives you a good idea about their need for adjustments. Some people will check at 70k miles for the first time. It may be a good idea to have it checked on your bike, just to know.
