So head-to-head, which is best, Gerbing or Warm and Safe. Does one necessarily heat better than the other and is one a better value. It appears the Gerbing come with the wiring harness and everything except a troller I need to actually use the gloves. Conversely, Warm and Safe sells the harness seperately thus running the price up a great deal? Maybe I'm wrong on this pont, but I know some of you guys can lead me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

I have the jacket liner and gloves from Warm n Safe. They get plenty warm down into the mid-twenties. I went WnS because I preferred the glove style over Gerbings - and because they give a discount to members of groups like st-owners (was around 15 - 20%).

Regardless of which brand you get, you'll need a controller. WnS includes the wiring harness with the controller.

I have the first gear jacket and gloves with the dual controller, gloves need a lot more heat than jacket

Just bought my wife the Microwire jacket and G3 gloves, she loves them (A happy wife is a happy life)... make sure you get sized right, I know they make 4 different small sizes..

The comptroller used by ALL companies was developed by WarmnSafe. Mac and I have gear from BOTH Gerbing and WarmnSafe. Both of us prefer WarmnSafe for PANTS liners. They have new generation liners that are getting great reviews. Mac finds WArmnSafe heated gloves provide more flexibility for his hands. He uses a dual comptroller so can set different temps...I use single control.....couldn't do without this gear!

I have the Gerbings only so I can only speak for them...I love 'em! Just replaced my "old" gloves with the newer Microwire gloves and they are more flexible than the old ones. Keep me warm in the 20's...lower than that and I switch from the ST to a snowmobile..:D

Withoujt a controller what would using the Gerbing G3s really be like? I have noticed one or two people say they do not have a controller.

Would it be a matter of plugging and unplugging them and would it just be too hot and too unhandy? I know what most people go with, but what are the facts with this.

I may one day add a jacket liner, but not this season. When I do it makes sense to have a duel controller, but I don't want to purchase that now, but on the other hand it doesn't make much sense to get a single controller now, when I'll just need a duel later. Help.

I can't compare as I only have the Gerbing liner, older style, but a week or so ago I was taking my bike for its annual test and put my liner on.... forgot to take the controller!
It was low single figure Celsius temperatures and I only used it briefly a few times, it was REALLY warm, not overly uncomfortable HOT, bearable, but if it had been warmer outside I wouldn't have needed it.
I would not choose to wear it again without the controller though!

I have the powerlet (rebranded wns) with the dual controller.
I find the gloves need more heat for a given temp.
You *could run the liner with out the controller but you would likely find yourself switching it off every 5 minutes and back on after maybe a minute. Not hot enough to burn you but it gets hot.
I've gotten lazy an not bothered with the controller on my hour commute but I unplug it when I get off the interstate. I think either brand will do you fine.

If you are looking at vest vs liner go with the liner.

I run my heated grips with a hi/lo/off switch and this works for me. Never use hi, and on an 8 hour ride may switch to off 2-3 times.

Also have a single controller that I now use as backup, very soon found that in running socks, pants and jacket liner I wanted the dual controller. Now I can fine tune the temps.

Think I would forego unplugging as a temp contol method if I wasn't using a controller, probably would at least use an off/on switch.

Agreed, get a dual controller to start.

Thanks guys. I at least went with the on/off switch and the gloves kept my hands toastie the other night when the guage was reading 34 degrees. I was impressed, because that was way lower than I would have ever been comfortable before.

I think I'll wait on the dual controller for the day when I ad the jacket liner. It will be warming up before too long around here and I won't need my new toys anyway until about next November.

I don't have Gerbing gloves, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express recently. :D

OK, so I have used Gerbing gloves and currently have a set of Widder gloves.
I must say that the Gerbings are much warmer.
In fact, they are so warm that you HAVE to use a controller.

I also used a Gerbing jacket liner while I had the gloves (both of them were borrowed from my brother in law). Rode for about 45 minutes on a 24 degree night, had the controller set on 7 out of 10, was sweating in about 5 minutes. Although I would like to have a nice, heated jacket liner, I'm too cheap to buy one, so I wired one myself. Knowing that the 77-watt Gerbing liner was too warm, I wired mine for about 50 watts. I don't use a controller, I just plug it in when I want to use it. I have commuted for an hour and a half in the low 30s with no problems. I have also not bothered to unplug it until the temp got over 60.

Some day I'll be able to afford a 'store-bought' liner, but in the meantime, I'll enjoy my $10 home-brew. :D

Buy American! Mike at W&S is a great guy to deal with and honors STclub discount, 10% I think. He also has "blems" on occassion at great discounts. willy
