Every flip-face helmet I've tried on touches my chin when in the closed position. This includes Shoei, Nolan and HJC. This is really aggravating. I don't think I've got a particularly protruding chin (ala Jay Leno :D). It seems that the manufacturers haven't designed them with enough room to accommodate the latching mechanism while still maintaining adequate space for the chin. Maybe it's just me...

Do any of you have the same issue? Have any of you had the same issue, but found one that fits without touching the chin?

FYI - I currently wear an XL Shoei RF1000 and it fits me like a glove.

I found the same thing, I bought a Nolan N102 it was way to snug against my chin. I however do have a muscular manly chin ala Jay Leno. So the Nolan sits on the shelf in the garage, I went to an EXO 700 and love it. My wife has the Nolan and loves it...

I have the Nolan N102. Under normal riding my chin doesn't touch but it is very close. I don't have to stick it out very far to touch the chin guard.

I have a Shoei Multi-tec and it fits real close to the chin. After about 30 minutes though, I got used to it. So much so that the microphone for the Starcom that I added doesn't even bother me anymore. But, I tried one of my Scala Q-2's and the 'phone in that setup was too much. So it's either the Starcom or go naked.

The microphone issue is troubling for me as well. I use a J&M Elite headset. I can't imagine there being room for a mic in an already-tight fitting chinbar.

I have a RF1000 and a MultiTec and it seems as if the 1000 is closer fit to chin but I can't exactly remember - neither is a problem.

Yep, even on my Caberg, the chin bar is close. As for my mic, I cut some of the molded styrafoam out so that the mic can fit 'into' the chin bar better.

I bought a cheapo KBC flip face. I'll bet it has the most room around the chin, I was prepared to spend the money on a Shoei MultiTec, but really like the KBC

I have 3 modular helmets:

Nolan 100E: Very close to the chin, but I'm use to it
MR2: El Cheapo for $30 delivered. Fits pretty well, takes a lot to get my chin to touch
Vega Summit: The best fit and most room on any of the 3.

The Nolan 102 is very close to my chin. The Shoei RF1000 has much more space. It seems to me that if you use a N102 or other helmet where the chinbar is very close to the chin, and you get into an accident, the helmet WILL rotate forward on your head if you get a frontal hit on the chinbar. A hit like that would be prone to break your jawbone, IMO.

I have found the chin bars to run closer on flip up models than their standard fullface models. I have had 2 flip ups and both were close (current is a Nolen n102) As for my mic, I cut some of the molded styrofoam out so that the mic can fit 'into' the chin bar better. This has worked out very well for me.

I have found this on a lot of helmets and I don't have much of a chin at all. I do however have a fat head and I always assumed that was the reason. I ride with a Fulmer Modus and I like it extremely well. When I have my gote (hair on my chin) it 's always a nice reminder as to when to trim as it touches the chinbar at anything over about 1/2 inch:bow1:

I just tried on the new Shark helmet. Great fit! No problem with hitting my chin. And, it easily become a 3/4 helmet with the chin bar pivoted all the way back.
