Final Drive Refresh

The final drive on my Pan is pretty skanky. I am looking at smartening it up, and am interested to hear what you've done.

I've considered painting it gold, but it would be in contrast to the swingarm. Is rattle can paint even durable? Anyone gone the polished route?

Thoughts & opinions welcome.
 
I have seen some pretty good results from people who say they have used the spray can version of Smooth Hammerite. I haven't tried it on the bike myself though.

I have tried it on some sheet aluminium and it looked pretty good. Some practice might be needed - it dries quickly but has an odd flow behaviour on surfaces that aren't level. Nothing desperate - but it is different from other paints.
 
I have used black BBQ paint because I figure it's good for high heat and after a year or so it still looks good.
