F1 sensor light comes on when cold (45 degrees or colder) after warm up and engine is off for a few minutes, when engine is restarted the light remains off. Can I replace the sensor myself? where is it located? What does it control?

There are several threads here on the F1 light, you need to find which code is setting it off.

Usually it's the 2007 and older bikes that have the F1 light lighted.

I expect your bike is running OK even though the F1 light is on?

There is no FI sensor.
The FI light is equivalent to the check engine light in a car. It is telling you that it has detected that there is something wrong. It does this by setting and storing a trouble code in the computer (ECM) and turning on the FI light to alert you of a problem.

You need to see what trouble code has been stored in the computer and what it relates to.

See below on how to check and clear the fault codes.
